Hamilton Hume (1797-1873) was born at Toongabbie, near Parramatta on 19 June, 1797. Hume was a superior bushman and prominent Australian explorer. He led the first Europeans to the Yass plains in 1821. Hume was a leader in The Hume and Hovell expedition, Lake George to Melbourne in 1824 and occupied the land grant of Yass in 1828.

He died at his home, Cooma Cottage on 19 April, 1873.

Coach tours are their specialty - with optional lunches or teas - and Cooma Cottage provides a unique pastoral setting for weddings, with great photo opportunities.
