Gurrundah: Where To Go / Sightseeing

Pye Cottage

Pye Cottage is an original slab hut donated to the Gunning Historical Society by the Pye family. Located in the main street of Gunning, the house is in its original state from circa 1886 to 1887.

Take a step back in time, view a variety of documents and artefacts and enjoy reliving the historic pioneering days. Pye Cottage is probably one of the last of its kind in the district, and the last of its design, which had been used for generations past by the early settlers of the highland country.

Crookwell Wind Farm

The Crookwell Wind Farm is located five minutes drive from the heart of Crookwell township. The wind farm consists of eight wind turbines, and was the first grid connected wind farm in Australia when built by Pacific Power in 1998. They are only 45 metres high. Improvements in technology means the newer turbines are 145 metres high, making these look very small.

Stop at the viewing area where the information boards will tell you more about this remarkable example of renewable energy

Crookwell Wind Farm currently supplies electricity to Country Energy's Green Power customers. If you look 10 kilometres further ahead into the valley, you will see more turbines which are over 175 metres high, in comparison to the Crookwell Wind Farm turbine's height of 45 metres.
