Eris Fleming Gallery

Eris Fleming is one of the great artists of Central NSW with his work being exhibited in Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra and other major centres across Australia and internationally.

His paintings focus on the fringe dwellers of outback society and their eccentricities, with the artist capturing the spirit of these people and their landscapes. The gallery is set at the base of the Catombal Range about 24 kilometres from Wellington.

Boehme's Hall

Step back in time and follow the history of Stuart Town, her early settlers and the gold rush in pictures at Boehme's Hall. Discover the personalities of Ironbarks, as the town was formerly know, and the Hall's namesake, Charles Henry Boehme 'a quaint little man of fantastic ideas and a heart of gold', who emigrated to Australia from Silesia, Central Europe, to become a celebrated member of the community.

Boehme's Hall is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10am to 2pm with brunch and lunch available on Saturday mornings. Come in for homemade ice creams, tea and coffee and light refreshments.

And don't forget to visit the Open Air Museum, which is next to Boehme's Hall.

Stuart Town Historic Town Walk

Stuart Town was originally called Ironbarks, the village Banjo Paterson used for his poem, 'Man from Ironbark'. The Historic Town Walk encompasses the Open Air Museum, Railway Station, Bicentennial Rock, Cobbler's Cottage, the Ironbark Inn and much, much more!

Goldfields at Ironbarks

Between 1875 and 1914 it is estimated that 140,000 ounces of gold was mined here. You can stroll across The Common and see many old mines. There are over 50 mine shafts and a Chinese oven which is evidence of the strong role Chinese miners played in the development of the Central NSW goldfields.

Wellington Caves and Phosphate Mine

The Phosphate Mine is located at the Wellington Caves Holiday Complex. The mine dates back to 1914, with 6000 tons of phosphate mined during its four years of operation. The phosphate was used as a fertiliser. Megafauna bones dating back to the Pleistocene Period two million years ago, were first discovered at Wellington and many are visible in the mud walls of the mine. Charles Darwin became interested in this discovery as it was influential on his thoughts on evolution.

The restoration and refurbishment of the mine as a tourist attraction began in 1995 opening in 1996. The mine is accessible to those in wheelchairs, prams and the elderly. A tour of the mine takes one hour to complete. Hard hats are supplied and must be worn in the mine.

Wellington Osawano Japanese Gardens

Visit Wellington Osawano Japanese Gardens located eight kilometres south east of Wellington on the Mitchell Highway. Wander around the manicured gardens, which include a man-made mountain, cascading stream and reflection lake.

The gardens were constructed between February and November 1999. The funding for the project was a gift donated by Osawano Town Council, the design and construction of the gardens was undertaken by Wellington Council. The gardens were officially opened by the Mayor of Osawano Maachi, Mr Tadao Nakasai on 21 November 1999 in conjunction with Wellington Mayor, Mark Griggs.

There are 1,500 individual plant specimens within the gardens comprising 126 different species. The garden is designed to give spring cherry blossom colour, autumn leaf colour and provide shade during the summer months with a most impressive blend of exotic and Australian plants. The Wellington-Osawano Japanese Gardens can be booked for functions and weddings.

Man from Ironbark Festival

The Man From Ironbark Festival is held in the historic village of Stuart Town. (Formally known as Ironbark as featured in Banjo Patterson's Man From Ironbark).
Staged on Easter Saturday, this annual event has become one of the districts largest events attracting over 4000 people to the village. Featuring market stalls, poets and buskers, food stalls, amusement rides and much more there is something for the entire family.

Boehme's Hall Markets

Head out to Historic Stuart Town and enjoy a classic country experience at the Boehme's Hall Markets. You'll find an abundance of local produce, bric'a'brac, art and craft, food, coffee and more. While you're at the Markets why not also discover the rich history of Stuart Town with a peruse inside Boehme's Hall. Light meals, tea and coffee are available from 10am to 2pm.

The recreation ground surrounding Boehme's Hall is a designated free camping area, with public toilets and showers available on site.

Carols In The Cave

Carols in the Cave will be held on Sunday December 17. This event is organised by Wellington Uniting Church and is a highly anticipated annual event.

Attendees are asked to arrive at 6.30pm to allow time to walk down the cave, with carols starting at 7pm.

The night will feature 'The Stray Notes' and 'Sing Australia Dubbo'
