Lake Canobolas Reserve


At the foot of Mount Canobolas is a large tranquil lake which provides a range of activities with the changing of the seasons.

Features of Lake Canobolas area include picnic and barbecue facilities, large playgrounds, sailing boats and canoeing on the lake, swimming and fishing.

On the eastern side of the lake is the Old Pumphouse which has been restored to near original condition after being disused for over 60 years. Lake Canobolas, previously known as Meadow Creek Reservoir, was constructed in 1918 to supply water to Orange. The Pumphouse transported the water from the reservoir to Orange. A walking track meanders around the lake and is a haven for native birds and other wildlife such as the echidna.

The Pumphouse is open daily between 9am and 3pm or by appointment.

Grave of Yuranigh


Sir Thomas Mitchell's loyal Aboriginal guide Yuranigh, is buried just out of Molong on the Mitchell Highway towards Orange. Yuranigh was buried according to aboriginal custom with carved trees at each corner of his grave, which indicated he was a man of honour.

Visitors are able to enter and view the site - but please remember to shut the gate behind you.

Australian National Field Days


Started in 1952, the Australian National Field Days (ANFD) is Australia's oldest annual agricultural exhibition where visitors will see a vast range of agricultural machinery, implements, services and ideas. Each year over 600 exhibitors from throughout Australia and overseas display their products and services at the event.

The ANFD is conducted by the Orange Field Days Co-op Ltd, a not for profit co-operative, whose charter is to Advance Australian Agriculture through exhibition, research, demonstration, competition and education.

The event is an exhibition of the latest agricultural technologies to assist farmers achieve their productivity objectives. Machinery, implements and ideas are all on display. In addition fashion and lifestyle products are exhibited in The House Paddock.

The voluntary committee and staff work throughout the year to have a range of topical, interesting and entertaining activities across the site over the three days.

Black Tie and Gumboot Truffle Hunt and Dinner 10th Anniversary Spectacular!


A grand extravaganza, the evening kicks off with a black truffle hunt with the trained dogs under the matured oak trees (the oldest truffle trees on the mainland of Australia), followed by a five course degustation feast featuring the freshly harvested truffles, with matched wines and fabulous live music. What a better way to spend a cool and possibly snowy winters night in July?

The Feast is five courses with matched wines.

Live entertainment will be provided by the fabulous Trouble With Johnny, and prizes for the best gumboot!

Great Volcanic Mountain Challenge


The Great Volcanic Mountain Challenge is a 'fun run' style event where you can run or walk to the top of Mount Canobolas, near Orange NSW. There is one 11 kilometre course and a two wave start. While the course is mostly uphill only a couple of sections are steep. Start near Towac Pinnacle Picnic Grounds (off Pinnacle Road) you first visit Mt Towac (a steep section but the views make it worth the effort) and then to Young Man Canobolas before the final climb to Mt Canobolas (also steep). The overall climb is 520 metres. Entry open to seniors, juniors and teams.
