The Lion of Waterloo

The Lion of Waterloo is believed to be the oldest licensed hotel west of the Blue Mountains that is still standing.
Dating back to 1841, The Lion of Waterloo was a popular destination for coaches, station hands, settlers and later miners.
Cobb and Co coaches would regularly stop here to change horses and refresh passengers before continuing on their journey.
Today the Lion has been renovated and is a charming tavern and restaurant.

Oxley Museum

The John Oxley Museum is a collection of historic artefacts tracing Wellington history from 1830 to present time, containing many photographs and specialty displays.

The museum is housed in the former Bank of NSW building constructed in 1883.

The museum is staffed voluntarily by members of the Wellington Historical Society Incorporated.

Cactus Cafe and Gallery

The Cactus Cafe and Gallery displays quality art and crafts in a relaxing and unique setting. It is housed in the former Sacred Heart Infants' School built in 1929-30 and follows the Spanish mission style of architecture popular at that time.

Wellington Open Gardens

Wellington Garden Group will once again be opening local gardens for viewing by the public with six properties including four country gardens featuring as part of "Historical Homes and their Gardens".

This year sees a special focus on Wellington's 200 year history this year with all homes featured being built in the 1800 and 1900s (please note that the public will not be able to walk through homes only the gardens).

Highlights of the four country gardens include:

'Nyrang' built of bluestone c.1898 and will feature Sue and Paul's Rustic Garden Art.

'Keston' (pictured) c.1897 featuring Relic Garden Art by Cherie Hughes.

'Towri' c.1880s will feature art work by Jan Payne throughout their Country Rose Garden.

'Narrawa' c.1908 is a non-gardeners garden surrounded by a parkland of trees and sculptures.

While Wellington's streets will also come alive as Terry Frost and Noel and Helen Grimes open their stunning gardens including plant stalls.

All proceeds raised will be donated to the Wellington Public School, St Mary's Catholic School, Wellington High School and Wellington Christian School.

The Wellington Historical Society will also be opening The Oxley Museum for visitor's throughout the day and entry will be a gold coin donation.

Wellington Boot Carnival

The Wellington Boot Racing Carnival is an all weekend spectacular which includes a series of sporting events supporting, promoting and developing Wellington and enhancing the recognition of sports and tourism.

The 'Boot' has grown to become the biggest country race meet in New South Wales where visitors and race goers travel from afar to participate and celebrate in the weekend.

SpringFest Rotary Markets and Lions Gold Cup Chariots for Charity

Held in award winning Cameron Park, the Wellington Rotary Markets offer fresh locally made produce, plants, craft, gifts, food, coffee, children's jumping castle and more. The Rotary Markets are held every fourth Saturday of the month. New stall holders always welcome.

PCYC Time for Kids will also be hosting a fundraising event on the day which will see some local identities get locked up and "Do Time to Stop Youth Crime". They will need your support to make bail or they'll stay locked up!

Vintage Fair Street Parade

The Vintage Fair is a much loved annual event held at the Wellington Showground.
The Vintage Fair Street Parade is a celebration and display of the antique engines and cars and takes place on the Saturday before the fair.
The Vintage Fair Street Parade begins at 11am in the main street of Wellington, offering a stream of colourful floats while the Wellington Correctional Centre Band will entertain viewers during the Vintage Fair Street Parade.

Wellington Visitor Information Centre

The Wellington Visitor Information Centre is located in the beautiful, award winning Cameron Park in the centre of Wellington. The Centre is an accredited Information Centre and was first opened in 1971. The centre has recently moved into the more spacious and adjoining 'old Library'.

The Wellington Visitor Information Centre offers a wide variety of local and regional tourist information along with a range of local produce and souvenirs.

The friendly and experienced staff at the centre can advise visitors on accommodation, things to see and do, where to eat, and are happy to relay the history of Wellington.
