Lithgow Small Arms Factory Museum

In 1906 the Australian Government decided Australia should be independent from Britain for her defence needs. The Lithgow Small Arms Factory commenced production in 1912.

This museum, situated in the grounds of the Small Arms Factory, celebrates the rich history of Australia's first high precision mass production facility and its people.

Over its years of operation Lithgow SAF accumulated military small arms from all over the world for technical appraisal. These and the Factory's own production form the basis of a most comprehensive collection of rifles, sub-machine guns and ordnance.

To keep this vital factory going between wars, an amazing array of commercial products were manufactured. The Factory saved the floundering Australian wool Industry during the 1930s, manufacturing parts for shearing handsets, replacing expensive English equipment.

In 2007, collector Ron Hayes donated a magnificent handgun collection. The diversity in the Ron Hayes Gallery will amaze even those disinterested in firearms.

Hassans Walls Lookout

Hassans Walls Lookout is the highest lookout in the Blue Mountains at approximately 1,100 metres above sea level. Look out to Mount Wilson, Mount York, Mount Tarana and Mount Blaxland and the whole Hartley Valley below. To the south are the Kanimbla and Megalong Valleys and Mount Bindo (1,363 metres).

You can also walk or ride around Hassans Walls Lookout.

Rydal Show

The Rydal Show is known as 'the biggest little show in the west', and this year will the 94th show for Rydal.

There is something for everyone with yard dog trials, wood chopping, prize winning arts and horticulture. See the best wool, the best cattle, and the best vegetables the district can produce. See the horse riding events and enjoy the Rydal Show country dining room where there is a two course lunch as well as morning and afternoon tea. Snacks are available at the canteen and liquid refreshments at the Bar.

Experience a real country show in a great bush setting on the edge of the village of Rydal, just 25 minutes from Lithgow.

Rock and Road Cycling Race

The Rock and Road Cycling Race is a first for the area, and a first for Australia in cycling sport. A race where riders get to prove themselves across both road and mountain bike disciplines.

Rydal and surrounding areas will host the inaugural Rock and Road race event. Riders can choose a solo race where they can prove their skills on two bikes. Starting on the road bike riders will take in an 80 kilometre route out of Rydal and through the surrounding scenic countryside, before returning to the event hub and transitioning onto their mountain bike for the 40 kilometres rock route through Lidsdale State Forest.

There's also a Mini option which allows solo riders to complete a half distance course. Riders can choose to compete as a Duo, with one rider undertaking the road section and one rider taking on the rock route, with a tag-transition.

The Zig Zag Motel Ladies National Karting Event

The Zig Zag Motel Ladies National Karting Event is the only Karting event in Australia exclusively for women and girls.

The event has entrants from throughout Australia as well as girls from New Zealand, and is recognised by the sport's governing body, Karting Australia, as an event of national importance.

The event also raises funds for the National Breast Cancer foundation. So far the club has raised over AUD150,000.

Clyde Marshall Memorial

In 1963, some 50 years ago, the Lithgow kart Club was formed. Clyde Marshall is a Memorial event. He was the original founding member of Lithgow Districts Kart club. And this event keeps the legend of Clyde alive.

Clyde Marshall initially owned the land on which the track was built. The club bought the land off him in 1981 to establish the Combined Districts Kart Club. Clyde was always there. He is in the clubhouse on the wall - king of the mountain.

The event has been ongoing since 1986 - 27 years of history of karting in Lithgow, New South Wales. Clyde is now deceased.

The Lithgow track has superb spectator facilities and the Combined District Karting Club welcome spectators, and it's free.
