Turon Technology Museum


Winner of a National Trust Heritage Award, The Turon Technology Museum offers something for everyone - from the steam engine enthusiast to children discovering the wider world of technology.

Situated in a secluded area off the Ilford-Sofala Road and just midway between the towns is the Turon Technology Museum, also known as the Museum of Power, which displays some of the fascinating engines and engineering behind the Industrial Revolution.

You will discover that the truth about this most important revolution is very different to your school book history.

The museum focuses on the power technology from 1850 to 1950, including steam turbines, a marine diesel engine and compressors. Many of the engines are in working order and those in the steam display are operational.

Kiosk, toilets, picnic area, parking are available.

Group bookings are essential and catering is available by arrangement.

Blacksmith's Corner


Blacksmith's Corner is located in the old gold mining village of Wattle Flat which is 10 kilometres south of the historic and well known village of Sofala.

This landmark was once the original blacksmith shop and Cobb and Co stop in the 1880s.
Stop off and have a look at the old Australiana artefacts or walk across to the local arts and craft centre.

Rylstone Sculptures Incorporated Wood Symposium

Home grown and International talent is coming to Rylstone Showground in an unprecedented regional sculpting fiesta!

It will be 10 days of hewing, shaving and polishing as the individual artists express themselves through unique methods of working in wood.

The sculptors will each be allocated a six metres by six metres bay, and will work in close proximity to one another to expand their drawn concepts to nine fully realised sculptures.

There will be chainsaws, brawn, technique and no doubt moments of creative drama. Grab lunch and a coffee from one of the many noted Rylstone cafes, bring a chair or blanket and avail yourself of the theatre that is Rylstone Sculptures Incorporated Wood Symposium15!

Set in the main street of Rylstone, StreetFeast is one of the district's premier annual events, allowing patrons to sample the diverse range of regional foods, produce, art, craftwork, and wines, that are produced there.
