Siding Spring Observatory


Siding Spring Observatory is Australia's premier optical astronomical research facility. Located 27 kilometres west of Coonabarabran on the edge of the Warrumbungle National Park, it is home of Australia's largest optical telescopes, the 3.9 metre Anglo Australian Telescope, and the 2.3 metre Advanced Technology Telescope.

Visitors are encouraged to explore the Exploratory with hands on activities and information about the universe, the solar system and the research activities undertaken by astronomers at the site.

The annual Star Fest celebration at Siding Spring Observatory is held on the first weekend in October. It's your chance to explore the whole site, talk with astronomers about the universe and the research they are undertaking. You might even get a chance to take a look through a telescope yourself! Warrumbungle Observatory


The 90 minute show at the Warrumbungle Observatory includes an astronomy presentation while sitting under the stars and looking through telescopes at the planets, stars and galaxies.

Learn how to navigate around the night sky, observe through up to four telescopes, including the new 20-inch telescope, and have the opportunity to take photos of astronomical objects with your SLR camera. Bookings are essential.

Emu Logic


Emu Logic is a working emu farm that has a farm shop that you can buy emu oil, meat, eggs and other emu products. You also have an opportunity to take a tour of the farm and meet the emus and learn about these wonderful birds.

Located just 15 minutes from the Warrumbungle National Park or Tooraweenah on the scenic road from Dubbo/Gilgandra to Coonabarabran.

Seasonal activities will impact what is included in the tour. In winter visitors get to meet the emus and maybe see the eggs hatching, but all year round there are friendly adults and growing chicks to meet.

Crystal Kingdom


Crystal Kingdom is the home of one of the world's most unique mineral collections, the "Minerals of the Warrumbungles".

StarFest


During the long weekend in October, Siding Spring Observatory opens its doors to the general public. You can get up close and personal with the telescopes, instruments, astronomers and engineers at SSO. The weekend features Science in the Pub, Open Day, and the Bok Lecture.

Science in the Pub is an evening of friendly banter between world renown astronomers and scientists on topical scientific issues. The public can engage with them, ask questions and learn new and exciting facts about our universe.

The Open Day is an all access event. Activities include "mini-talks" by professionals for both adults and children, science demonstrations, displays from organisations like ANSTO, CSIRO, and Questacon, and a market featuring local produce and wares.

The Bok Lecture is a presentation by a world renown professional in the field of space science. The presentation topics can be quite diverse, from life in space to the expanding universe.
