The Glass Gallery - BS Glass Art

The Glass Gallery in Springwood in the Lower Blue Mountains is a beautiful space showcasing glass art by artist Barbara Stephenson.

Barbara specialises in fused and slumped glass art and fused glass jewellery. She has been working with glass for over 20 years firstly making leadlight panels and stained glass objects before moving into the world of kiln formed glass in 2002.

Valley Heights Locomotive Depot Heritage Museum

Explore the oldest roundhouse in NSW and enjoy the sights, sounds (and smells) of railway travel over the last 100 years!

Enjoy unlimited 20 minute rides on our 1890s Sydney Steam Tramcar and view model railway layouts including a five metre long HO scale model of the Depot as it was in the 1950s.

Climb aboard steam engines, carriages and wagons from many eras of trains across the mountains. See the remarkable "Caves Express" and the "Ice Van", carefully restored to their former glory!

View exhibits of rail artefacts and paintings, local history and photographic display plus a large collection of books, videos and souvenir items.

Kids can do the quiz and check answers on the website.

The museum is normally open the second and fourth Sunday of every month. Barbecue facilities are available or relax with a cup of tea or coffee and cake in the tea rooms.

Norman Lindsay Gallery

The Norman Lindsay Gallery is the former home of the illustrious artist and author, Norman Lindsay (1879-1969).

Now open as a gallery and run by the National Trust (NSW), it displays the artist's oil paintings, watercolours, etchings, ship models, sculptures plus characters from his classic children's book, The Magic Pudding.

The Rotary club of Springwood's Antique, Vintage and Collectables Fair

Antique dealers from around Australia come to Winmalee High school every first weekend in June to showcase and sell their wares, ranging from old jewellery, silver, small furniture, glass ware, porcelain laces, old tools, all to name a few. This year vintage Ford cars will be on display on Saturday.
Refreshments will be on sale for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.

Steam Train or Tram Rides at Valley Heights

On selected Sundays, visitors may ride in a vintage open-ended "cowboy" carriage. This will be pulled by a Stephenson Tank Engine from 1899 which has recently been revived for the Museum's 25 minute return trip (subject to change/operating conditions).

Other operating days (see website) will still see all day rides on the ever popular Steam Tram from the 1890s.

Now in full swing is a new free Smartphone app that visitors can download to enjoy interesting facts and figures about the exhibits. Take the app home to share.

A newly unveiled World War One Honour Board commemorates 18 local railwaymen who enlisted for World War One. Read the stories behind these young mens' lives.

Santa Arrives by Steam Tram*

Santa completes his annual trip from the "North Pole" to the Museum in style!

At 11am and 1.30pm on both days, he greets the throng of excited children from the back of the famous 19th century Sydney Steam Tram*. Accompanied by his elves, Santa makes his way to the 1914 Roundhouse to have a personal chat with all the children, dispense free gifts to each one, and be available for photos. Then enjoy all the regular activities at this fascinating Museum, including unlimited rides on the Tram* and the chance to climb on brilliantly restored engines and carriages.

Everyone can enjoy a total experience, Santa in the surrounds of steam trains and trams plus a jumping castle*. A kid's quiz will keep the older ones amused, and the cafe is open for cold drinks and ice creams. Don't forget the camera!

Life Drawing Summer Schools at Norman Lindsay Gallery

During the warm summer days of January, two Life Drawing Summer Schools will be held in the beautiful grounds of the Norman Lindsay Gallery at Faulconbridge. If you want to explore your creative side in this magical setting, enrol now in one of these special four day courses.

The tutor for the first week is David Newman-White who is an experienced lecturer in fine art and has taught in TAFE colleges for 28 years. He has extensively exhibited both nationally and internationally.

The tutor for the second week is Jeff Rigby, who has taught widely among NSW Colleges of TAFE and frequently exhibits his paintings, drawings, and watercolours in Sydney galleries.

The package includes four days (9am to 1pm) of life drawing, tuition, models, use of easels, and morning tea.

Bookings are essential.

Textiles in Context

Textiles in Context showcases the talents of exemplary Blue Mountain textile artists. The exhibition includes textile art work in felting, embroidery, crochet, basketry, millinery and weaving. Textiles in Context will run in tandem with ContextART 2016, an annually run event of textile based workshops in Hazelbrook.
