Oxley Museum

The John Oxley Museum is a collection of historic artefacts tracing Wellington history from 1830 to present time, containing many photographs and specialty displays.

The museum is housed in the former Bank of NSW building constructed in 1883.

The museum is staffed voluntarily by members of the Wellington Historical Society Incorporated.

Cameron Park

The award winning Cameron Park is in the perfect location right in the middle of Wellington's Central Business District. The park is a great spot to enjoy a picnic, laze under the huge leafy trees or enjoy a leisurely stroll through the beautiful gardens. The park has excellent modern playground equipment provided for children of all ages. A highlight is the Suspension Bridge which links Cameron Park to Pioneer Oval and the Sunken Rose Garden.

Cameron Park is also home to a 25 pounder Gun-Howitzer, a Band Rotunda, granite Cenotaph supporting three majestic figures, a cascading fountain, and the Lone Pine grown from a seed from Gallipoli. Cameron Park celebrated its 100th birthday in 2010.

The Lion of Waterloo

The Lion of Waterloo is believed to be the oldest licensed hotel west of the Blue Mountains that is still standing.
Dating back to 1841, The Lion of Waterloo was a popular destination for coaches, station hands, settlers and later miners.
Cobb and Co coaches would regularly stop here to change horses and refresh passengers before continuing on their journey.
Today the Lion is a charming tavern and restaurant.

Mount Arthur Reserve

On the 18 August 1817 John Oxley and his party were the first Europeans to sight Mount Arthur, Wellesly and Duke. The three peaks form the basis of the Mount Arthur Reserve which is a public recreation area of 1.3 hectares, situated 563 metres above sea level and offers a good view of Wellington and the Wellington Valley.

Bushwalks of one and a half hours to four hours duration are available through native Australian flora. Designated horse trails are also available. There are many picnic areas, but no camping is permitted.

During spring the hills comes alive with bursts of colour from the gold Wattles, Pea Flowers (Dillwinia juniperina) in indigo, purple and red, Bugle Flower in purple clusters and the Bluebell (Wahlenbergia gracilis) provides a wonderful show.

Wellington Boot Carnival

The Wellington Boot Racing Carnival is an all weekend spectacular which includes a series of sporting events supporting, promoting and developing Wellington and enhancing the recognition of sports and tourism.

The 'Boot' has grown to become the biggest country race meet in New South Wales where visitors and race goers travel from afar to participate and celebrate in the weekend.

Festivities include: Soldiers Club Calcutta, large betting ring and full TAB facilities, country racing with shaded picnic areas, Magic Millions Yearling Raffle Draw, Miss Wellington Boot and Fashions on the Field, The Carlton Clydesdale Team, jumping castle, full bar and catering facilities.

The Boot is run on the beautiful Wellington Race Course. If you're looking for a fantastic social event as well as a prestigious race day, look no further than the famous Wellington Boot.

Crazy about Chrome Show 'N' Shine

All motor vehicles are invited - cars, bikes, trucks - to the Crazy about Chrome Show 'N' Shine.

This is not your ordinary car show. There is lots to do and see, with precision driving events, three leaf clover, reversing, and see saw.

Over 30 trophy categories, market stalls, food stalls, children's rides, and face painting. There will be trade exhibitors, VRA demos, and giveaways throughout the day. A scale model competition, rocker cover races, raffles, t-shirts and much more.

The event is a charity fundraiser for the Mark Hughes Foundation, Father Chris Reilly's Youth off the Streets, and Cessnock Voluntary Rescue Squad.

This is an alcohol free event.

Wellington Visitor Information Centre

The Wellington Visitor Information Centre is located in the beautiful, award winning Cameron Park in the centre of Wellington. The Centre is an accredited Information Centre and was first opened in 1971. The centre has recently moved into the more spacious and adjoining 'old Library'.

The Wellington Visitor Information Centre offers a wide variety of local and regional tourist information along with a range of native cosmetics, tea and condiments, local produce and souvenirs.

The friendly and experienced staff at the centre can advise visitors on accommodation, things to see and do, where to eat, and are happy to relay the history of Wellington.
