The Shed Gallery

The Shed Gallery opened in June 2003 and consists of photography documenting the earliest days of the sugar industry in the Clarence Valley, when it was all done by hand. The digitally enhanced photographs also depict the pioneering families of Goodwood Island and surrounding areas in the Clarence Valley. This is the only sugar industry Museum in NSW. Also on display are a range of cane knives and other interesting objects from the early days of the local sugar cane industry.

Open seven days a week by appointment. Mini bus tours are welcome. Gold coin donation appreciated.

Maclean Lookout

Maclean Lookout is just two kilometres from the town centre on a good sealed road. Offering spectacular views of the coast, bushland, cane fields, river, islands and township. There are picnic tables and turn-around at the Lookout summit which coaches and caravans can easily negotiate. The reserve is a popular site for people walking for pleasure and exercise and enjoying the open space and natural features.

The reserve has long been Maclean's Scenic Lookout and largely undisturbed with the exception of the cleared area surrounding the lookout, the area adjacent to the communications tower and the Pinnacle. Maclean Lookout Reserve has a high level of historical value in terms of being the site for the town Scenic Lookout where the community have traditionally enjoyed views of the Clarence River, Lake Wooloweyah and the hinterland.
The view from the Lookout gives a perspective of the flood plain, estuarine and coastal connection.

Maclean Tartan Power Poles

The iconic Maclean Tartan Power Poles were instigated by the Maclean Scottish Town Association in the year 2000 to coincide with the arrival of the Olympic Torch which was to be conveyed through the township of Maclean. The designs attracted so much favourable comment that there was ongoing considerable public demand for "Family Tartans" to be painted.

Hence the Tartan Power Pole painting was carried on through the main street and extended from there so that today they have an avenue of tartan poles in and around the streets of the main town, extending from the Harwood Bridge to the southern approach to Maclean at Ferry Park. All tartan designs have been painted by resident Maclean artist Linda El Mir.

The Clarence Coast Visitor Information Centre at Ferry Park and the Scottish Shop in Maclean have free maps with locations of the (over 200) Power Poles with Clan Tartans.

Wombah Coffee Plantation

Wombah Coffee Plantation was established in 1982 by two ladies, Joan Dibden and Joy Phelps, who still own, manage and work the plantation and process the coffee from berry to roasted, packaged coffee. The coffee is produced from the finest Arabica coffee trees, grown in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales. The trees are seedlings of original coffee trees brought to the area over 100 years ago.

Wombah Coffee Plantation boasts a superior grade of coffee based on quality control during growing and processing, organically based horticulture and selective hand picking without the use of harmful sprays. This pleasant mild coffee is naturally lower in caffeine than most imported varieties.

A quaint coffee house which serves Wombah Coffee, fruit juices and a selection of locally baked quiches, pies and cakes, and an adjacent craft shop, are situated on the property.

Group inspection of the Plantation is welcomed. Bookings essential.
