The Channon Gallery

Located in the picturesque village of The Channon in the Byron Bay hinterland of northern New South Wales, The Channon Gallery is committed to the exhibition of fine Australian contemporary art to delight and provoke.

Their gallery offers curated exhibitions throughout the year and a perpetual group showing of works by local and interstate artists. There is always something fresh to see, as well as viewings of works from their Stock Room for those with a specific interest.

The gallery is eager to embrace an honest discourse about the art, its context and the viewer. Be it joy, rage or indifference, art by definition evokes self reflection and this is what the gallery hopes you will find here.

Their collection is constantly evolving and their exhibition spaces are reworked every few weeks - variety is indeed the spice of life - and the artists are that spice.

Nimbin Rocks

The Nimbin Rocks are volcanic extrusions of Rhyolite left over from the Mount Warning Tweed Volcano that erupted around 20 million years ago. As part of an eroded dyke of the volcano, Nimbin Rocks are located just outside the present day caldera wall about 20 kilometres from Mount Warning and three kilometres from Nimbin Village. They are an extremely significant cultural site to the local Bundjalung tribe who believe the rocks were home to the Nmbngee, or Clever Men. They were also the initiation grounds for young boys.
