Koala Care Centre

The Lismore region has one of the highest populations of koalas in NSW. It is not unusual for people to have koalas roaming through their backyards. Nevertheless, the pressures of disease, habitat loss and degradation, road traffic and dog attacks are inflecting a heavy toll.

Lismore based Friends of the Koala has cared for thousands of Koalas from across the Northern Rivers region for over 20 years. Most of these Koalas have spent some part of their rehabilitation in the group's Koala Care Centre, itself situated in an established Koala corridor in Rifle Range Road, east Lismore.

An entirely voluntary organisation, friends of the Koala welcomes visitors to the centre for guided tours on Monday to Friday at 10am and 2pm, and at 10am on Saturday.

For more information please call the Koala Care Centre.

South Gundurimba: Travel Tips

Lismore Visitor Information Centre

The Lismore Visitor Information Centre is much more than a Visitor Centre - it's an experience. The Centre's aim is to be a link between visitors and the rich source of environmental, cultural and economic resources in Lismore and the Northern Rivers.

As Lismore is on the doorstep to spectacular rainforest, the centre features an Indoor Rainforest. It has a waterfall, videos and models of native flora and fauna and displays telling the story of the sometimes controversial history of some of the rainforest areas.

The centre has an extensive range of local arts, crafts and produce and is committed to supporting the local producers in the Northern Rivers Region. The centre is located in Heritage Park, which features a Tiny Tots Adventure Park with swings, rides and a miniature train. A skate ramp, barbecues, picnic tables and toilets are also located on this site.
