The Lawrence Road follows the western bank of the Clarence River and connects Grafton to the township of Lawrence which is then linked to Woodford Island and Maclean by a ferry crossing. the scenic and fully sealed road is a popular alternative to the pacific highway. Queen street, Grafton runs into this Lawrence Road and just north of the city is the old alumny creek public school which has been set up as a museum of early rural education. A large sports field and picnic facilities are adjacent groups can make arrangements to visit. A little further north lies the small village of Southgate, the community centre for the surrounding farms. A small vehicular ferry links Southgate to Ulmarra and provides the link in a pleasant round trip, from Grafton.

Old Codgers Antiques


Situated in the old 1892 Norco Butter Factory, Old Codgers Antiques offers antiques, old wares and bric-a-brac, and French copper cooking ware, amid the historical air of Ulmarra's past.

Old Codgers is open casual hours so it's best to ring ahead to arrange a visit.

A fascinating shop in the village of Ulmarra, which has been classified by the National Trust.

Alumny Creek School Museum and Reserve


The Alumny School operated from 1872 until 1969. It is now a living museum of school life with significant pieces of equipment, school records and memorabilia reflecting various stages of education over these years.

It's a trip in a time machine back to your primary school days featuring many small details that may be long forgotten. The reserve surrounding the school is like a village green with picnic facilities, shady trees and sports facilities.

Clarence Gorge


Located within one and a half hours drive, north-west of Grafton is this rugged gorge where thundering waterfalls and savage rapids intermingle with deep pools and sections of calm water. The scenery is breathtaking and the fishing is excellent. There are three main waterfalls and the Rainbow Falls live up to their name on sunny days.

There are guided 4WD tours available but most visitors enjoy overnight stays at one of the properties that line the gorge. It must be emphasised that the Clarence Gorge is enclosed by private property on both sides. These properties operate as farm stay businesses and can accommodate campers.

A visit to the gorge cannot be achieved in a few hours without any planning and prior arrangements, but those who make the effort are inevitably inspired by their adventure.

Squatters Rest Private Museum


Surrounded by vintage tractors, engines and farm machinery, there are 19 old style buildings, including a replica 1880 cook house at the Squatters Rest Private Museum. They make the best billy tea and bushman's bread with cocky's joy in the cook house.

Clarence Valley Country Muster


Calliope, a tiny community north-east of Grafton will come alive during the Jacaranda Festival for the 2016 Clarence Valley Country Muster.

The stage is set for the fourth magnificent country music festival that in 2013 broke new ground on the NSW North Coast.

This year, country music superstar Adam Harvey will perform some of his greatest hits at the muster, as well as many other acts!

The muster will also serve up country hospitality including a canteen packed with mouth watering, home grown produce.

Prizes are available for people who would like to perform, including a AUD2000 recording package from Kross Kut Records for the best Walk-Up Artist.

Grafton July Racing Carnival


The Clarence River Jockey Club, located in the picturesque jacaranda tree lined city of Grafton on the NSW North Coast, is home to the richest non-metropolitan carnival in Australia, the famous Grafton July Racing Carnival. AMCA Nationals Andrew Walker Classic


A variety of races will be held over the night at the Grafton Speedway including the Street Stocks, Four Cylinder Sedans, Juniors, LTD Sedans Production Sedans, Wingless Sprints, and Litre Sprints.

There will also be a fireworks display.

Gates open at 3pm with racing commencing at 6pm.

December Weekend of Rowing


The Clarence River will come alive with boats, competitors and officials, when the river's two major rowing regattas are held at Memorial Park in Grafton.

The Head of the Clarence River Regatta is expected to draw a large number of schools to compete. In the past crews have came from New Zealand, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Gold Coast and, of course, the competitive Clarence Valley schools.

On Sunday, the Grafton Rowing Club's annual regatta will be held, with the majority of teams staying over to compete, plus the addition of the North Coast's many master competitors.
