Dungog Historical Museum


The Dungog Historical Society was formed in 1963 and since 1968 has operated a museum in the heritage-listed former School of Arts building. The purpose of the museum is the collecting, preserving and interpreting of local heritage for everyone. The society aims to promote local history - including family history and the museum collection - to the local community and the general public. They can assistance with research enquiries in person or by correspondence.

The collection reflects the area's rural history, including dairying, the timber industry, and local manufacturing including items from Wade's Cornflour Mill Dungog. Domestic items include household items and a photographic collection. Items that grandmother used for the daily running of the house, dentist equipment for pulling teeth, medical items, known Dungog citizen's stories, and history. Horse drawn carts and buggies and shop items are also on display.

There are guided tours of the museum. Bookings essential.

Great Country Drives


Dungog Shire is in the Hunter Region of NSW and is renowned for its forests, mountains and clean rivers and picturesque villages and covers an area of 2248 square kilometres. It is bordered in the north by the Barrington Tops plateau, which is part of the Great Dividing Range. The Shire consists of rugged to hilly country in the north to undulating landscapes in the south.

The Great Country Wander (56 kilometres) includes Paterson, Vacy, Martins Creek, Wallarobba, Glen William, Clarence Town
The Great Forest Adventure (117 kilometres) includes East Gresford, Allynbrook, Eccleston, Boot Hill, Upper Allyn, Salisbury, Dungog
The Great Mountain Adventure (64 kilometres) includes Dungog, Bandon Grove, Chichester Dam, Telegherry Forest Park, Frying Pan Creek, Main Creek (for Fosterton Loop add 31 kilometres)

No booking needed, just roll up and enjoy the fun and music at Oktoberfest.

At a reasonable price enjoy some delicious German food, sausages, sauerkraut, goulash and plenty more. Beer, wine, and soft drinks available. Great cakes and strudels, tea and coffee.

Wallarobba Prawn and Chicken Night


Come along to the annual Prawn and Chicken night at the Wallarobba Hall. Bring along yourself and a friend. Wirragulla Annual Polo Tournament


The Hunter Polo Challenge is a great family day out at Wirragulla Polo Club ground at Dungog in the Hunter. It is fast, exciting polo, with top players competing and over 200 horses will be played. The event is an informal relaxed way to watch and enjoy Picnic Polo in a picturesque setting. Canteen and bar will be available.

Make it a weekend or a day at the polo, then visit the coast or vineyards, it is your choice. Wirragulla Polo Club is one hour from Newcastle, one hour from the vineyards, and two and a half hours from Sydney. Parking is free.

Dungog Pedalfest


Dungog Pedalfest is a celebration of cycling and sociability over the second weekend in September each year!

This weekend is a major fund-raising event for the local community and is proudly supported by the Rotary Club of Dungog - a cause well worth pedalling for!

Weekend events include music, dancing and food at the nearby Bandon Grove School of Arts, Dungog Society Art Show (a must visit!), local markets and ever popular Dungog Cinema.

For those who ride a bicycle there's a assortment of cycling activities for all ages and abilities. This year, refreshments have expanded from the ever popular muffins to include other delights. View details on their web site of the various rides for you to try!

In response to many requests, the Chichester Dam Ride will be running again on Sunday, which explores the upper Williams River valley on the scenic road up to the dam at Chichester for morning tea.

Dungog Dash and Dawdle


The Dungog Dash and Dawdle has a half marathon, the 12 kilometre dash, the six kilometre dawdle, and the Pups and Prams event, which is four laps of the showground.

This event is supported by Step Into Life, Dungog Gallery 94, and the Rotary Club of Dungog with profits going to the Dungog Shire Community Centre.

If you can't Run or Dash maybe you would like to walk or dawdle? Come help raise much needed funds for The Community Centre.

Presentations are at 11am on the Showground.

The Dungog Show is a family orientated show that celebrates and promotes local produce, talent and agriculture of the Dungog Shire.

Dungog Markets


Stalls include handmade arts and crafts, jams, relishes, vinegars and preserves, organic soaps, cakes, slices and biscuits, garments, plants, St Andrew's kitchen and seasonal farmer produce. The markets are held at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church. The grounds are open for set up from 7.30am.

Dungog Arts Society Annual Art Exhibition


Dungog Arts Society was established to foster creative activities for its members and to further develop artistic awareness in Dungog. Paintings are of local areas and other structures, scenery and many other subjects, so come in and buy or browse the art work. The artists have creative items that will please all, and you will be amazed by some very good talent.
