Two hours drive north of Sydney is Newcastle, a contemporary beachside city with beautiful beaches, a bustling harbour and a thriving cultural scene.
The city boasts no fewer than 30 galleries, half of which are within walking distance of the CBD and Newcastle plays host to a diverse range of events including The Shoot Out Film Making festival held each July.
Explore the wonders of nature at the Blackbutt Reserve, just ten minutes from the city centre. It’s the perfect place for a family picnic with wildlife exhibits, nature trails and children’s play areas, and entry is free.
Lake Macquarie is a quaint waterfront town, just 90 minutes drive north of Sydney and is the perfect spot to relax and indulge. The vast saltwater lake is one of the largest in the Southern
Hemisphere and is ideal for swimming, sailing, fishing or even scuba diving.
The Watagan Mountains form a pectacular backdrop to the lake, and have plenty of walking tracks waiting to be explored.
The Central Coast is a leisurely one hour drive north of Sydney. With a combination of bays, beaches, lakes and lush hinterland, this is the perfect location for a tranquil beachside getaway.
The seaside town of Terrigal is characterised by a row of stately Norfolk Island Pines, defining the beachfront esplanade with its sophisticated dining and café culture.
There are many natural wonders to be explored including The Skillion at Terrigal Beach, a rugged coastal landmark providing the perfect vantage point to see the whales migrating during winter.
The Entrance has a cosmopolitan atmosphere and is renowned for its huge pelican population. The beaches are fantastic for swimming and fishing and the nearby Tuggerah Lake is ideal for waterskiing, canoeing, sailing, rowing and sail boarding.
Ettalong is a family favourite with safe beaches, lagoons and waterways. The area is also popular for fishing and has great boating facilities.
