Myall Lakes National Park

Myall Lakes National Park is situated on 47,493 hectares and is located 236 kilometres north of Sydney and 16 kilometres east of Bulahdelah.

One of the state's largest coastal lake systems - a Ramsar Wetland of International Significance - and 40 kilometres of beaches and rolling sand dunes make Myall Lakes one of the most visited parks in New South Wales. The Grandis, a magnificent 76 metre high flooded gum, is one of the tallest trees in the state.

The lakes and beaches are perfect for water activities, and if you don't have your own craft, you can hire one locally. 4WD beach driving is permitted between Hawks Nest and Big Gibber.

Broughton Island

"Broughton Island is a scuba diver's paradise - on our last camping trip we saw hundreds of fish and even some grey nurse sharks."

Camping at Little Poverty Beach is a truly special experience. Located on Broughton Island, you'll be camping amongst an active seabird colony- it's a key breeding site for wedge-tailed shearwaters.

There are plenty of opportunities for water activities, including swimming, fishing, boating, snorkelling and scuba diving. You'll find sandy beaches within Esmeralda Cove.

With only five campsites, you'll feel like you own the island. The campground is fairly basic, so you'll have to bring all your equipment and supplies with you, including water. You must book and pre-pay for a campsite prior to arriving at the island.

Galleries in the Gardens

Ever since the historic town of Tea Gardens was established it has been the inspiration for artists to reach for their brushes, cameras and clay. Now with more than 30 local artists, the business community is helping to celebrate their creativity with the Galleries in the Gardens project - bringing local art to the public through art displayed in 14 businesses flying the GIG banners.

Tea Gardens village enjoys a holiday atmosphere and fine range of shops and cafes offering delicious food, jewellery, gifts, art and sculpture. Stroll around the village and browse or take home that special memento or gift.

On Saturday visit the Courtyard Art Gallery beside the Hotel - meet the artists and see their latest artwork. Another fun dimension to the Art Amble is the outdoor artwork along the riverfront.

There is always something new and displays are changed regularly.

Yacaaba Head Walk

Yacaaba is the largest headland of Port Stephens and marks the northern entrance to the port. The track begins from Bennetts Beach ( Hawks Nest Beach) and the initial section is a well informed path, winding its way through a tall open forest. The track leads around the northern side of the hill, offering spectacular views. The final section to the top of the headland is very steep and unformed, its more suitable for experienced walkers.

There is no formal lookout , but the top is marked by an old trigonometrical survey point. Allow three hours for a return journey.
