Coolamon RSL Memorial Museum


The award winning Coolamon RSL Memorial Museum is situated in the RSL Hall, Loughnan Street, Coolamon. The museum houses an extensive collection of military items from Pre-Federation to the present day.

The museum project is an initiative of the Coolamon Sub Branch of the Returned and Services League with the aim of preserving for the Coolamon community, a collection which specifically preserves the local military history of the Coolamon District.

Open by appointment only. Free admission.

Up-To-Date Store Cultural and Learning Precinct


For generations travellers and the families of Coolamon were served by the Up-To-Date Store. It was generally known as the place were you could get anything from a needle to a hay stack. The Coolamon Shire Council has created a museum around a retail experience that no longer exists. It's a charming world of service.

A space of historical significance which includes a fully functioning Lamson Cash Railway Machine (the only known ball-style cash railway system in the world that is still in its original location), and the 'Mavis Furner Collection' and provides a space for travelling exhibitions, art shows and seminars.

Included in the museum experience is the collection of Garth Jones farm machinery. The collection highlights the intimate link the region and the Store had with the development of agriculture.

Kindra Forest


The Kindra State Forest is located in Coolamon and is made up of 52 hectares of remnant bushland. The Forest contains a number of walking tracks that will lead you on a trail of discovery, taking in the flora and fauna of the Forest, seating and viewing areas, picnic spots and interperative signage to help you discover the area.

Over 100 bird species have been sighted in Coolamon Shire, many of which can be found or viewed from the Forest area. A colony of large and often noisy White Winged Choughs reside in this locality - their large mud nests can sometimes be observed. Red-capped Robins fly in close to investigate intruders. White-winged Trillers and Rufous Whistlers can often be heard and Red Wattle Birds as well as a variety of other Honeyeaters can be spotted.

Coolamon Scarecrow Festival

Coolamon's Cowabbie Street will come alive at the Coolamon Scarecrow Festival. Try your hand at creating a scarecrow or dressing like one!

AUD500 will be awarded for the Best Handmade Scarecrow and AUD300 for the Best Live Scarecrow.

As well as plenty of scarecrow activity there will be a variety of stalls, kids activities, monster raffle, and food outlets.

There will also be live entertainment.

This will be a great day out for the whole family with all proceeds from the day will be in aid of The Coolamon Men's Shed.

Up2Date Art Exhibition

The opening night of the Up2Date Art Exhibition will be held on the Friday night and entry includes complimentary champagne and canapes.

The Exhibition will be on show for eight days after the launch. Sections include Oil, Acrylic - Mixed Media, Watercolour, Drawings and Pastels, Sculpture and Ceramics, Printmaking, "Things with Wings" - Any medium.

The Up-to-Date Store Cultural Precinct (UTDS) is a community asset owned by the Coolamon Shire Council. The Up-to-Date Store also houses the 'Mavis Furner Collection' and provides a space for travelling exhibitions, art shows and seminars.

Capture Coolamon Shire Photography Competition

Capture Coolamon Shire Photography Competition is open to both professional and amateur photographers everywhere, however, all entries must have been taken within the Coolamon Shire boundary.

There will be both Youth and Open Sections and cash prizes awarded across five categories, including the AUD1000 Cathie Thompson Prize.

Entries close Friday 16 October 2015. Prize winners will be announced on 30 October 2015.

The Official Opening will take place on Friday 30 October. AUD15 per person includes canap?s. The evening's program will feature live entertainment and the Official Awards Ceremony. Bar facilities will be available on the night.

The exhibition will display in the Up to Date Store from October 31 - 8 November 2015.
