Sturt Memorial

Captain Charles Sturt's passage through Narrandera on 12 December 1829 is recorded on a memorial where the explorer's party passed on their epic journey along the Murrumbidgee River.

Local lore has it that Sturt marked a tree on the site of this memorial, which is situated at Narrandera on the northern bank of the Murrumbidgee River, just west of the Newell Highway at the entrance to the Narrandera Wetlands.

PS Wagga Wagga

The Paddle Steamer Wagga Wagga was the last of the Murrumbidgee paddle steamers. It spent forty years servicing the waterways between Mildura and Wagga Wagga carting timer, wool and provisions. In 1918 it sprang a leak and was run aground on a sandbar and left to rot. Use the viewing platform to see it. Only visible when water levels are low.

Sandhills Artefacts

Inspired by his father, an expert craftsman of boomerangs for hunting and throwing, Michael Lyons inherited the skills and patience to perfect the art of making boomerangs and artefacts with earthy colours and traditional designs.

A descendant of the Wiradjuri nation, Michael leads cultural tours around his traditional country, teaching about bush foods and survival. Michael also welcomes visitors to his workshop by the river on Bamblett Street, where he beautifully crafts his didgeridoos, boomerangs, coolamons, emu eggs, clap sticks, and other artefacts.

This man made wetland recycles storm water from the town. The aim of the Narrandera Wetlands is to receive the town's stormwater and, through various physical and biological treatment processes, improve the quality of the water entering the Murrumbidgee River, whilst providing a haven for waterbirds and associated flora and fauna.
