Tumbarumba

Tumbarumba is located in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains and is surrounded by vineyards, trout streams, cattle and sheep stations. Tumbarumba sprang to life in the 1850s during the gold rush era and the town retains some of its historic buildings such as the Court House.

Explorers Hume and Hovell trekked through the area on their way to Port Phillip in 1824, and you can retrace their steps on the 12 kilometres Hume and Hovell Track that follows Burra Creek, cutting through a tunnel built during the gold-mining days in the 1800s.

Learn about the gold mining and pioneer days at the Tumbarumba Museum, conveniently located in the Visitor Information Centre. The museum hosts a permanent display of the Southern Cloud, the aircraft disappeared in the area in 1931 and was not found until 1958.

See the stunning Paddys River Falls, located 15 kilometres from town.

Visit local cellar doors for tastings at Tumbarumba's award winning cool climate wines and see the Artists on Parade Gallery.

Annual events include the New Year's Day Rodeo, Tumbarumba Cup and Tumbafest - the town's festival of music, food and wine.

Tumbarumba Artists On Parade Co-operative Ltd is a not for profit, community based gallery and artist workspace, run by local artists and volunteers.

Pioneer Women's Hut Museum


The Pioneer Women's Hut at Glenroy Heritage Reserve is one of the best and most unusual small museums in Australia. Cleverly themed, it reflects the ingenuity of women in finding solutions to the challenges of looking after a family in early rural Australia. The accessibility and provenance of the diverse collection adds to its reputation.

The Heritage Quilt Room exhibition is now open and displays "The Gift of Thrift" exhibition. Entry to this exhibition is AUD5 per person.

Hume and Hovell Walking Track - Henry Angel Trackhead


The Henry Angel Trackhead is a popular camping area with good facilities including electric and gas barbecues. It is located around nine kilometres from the town of Tumbarumba on the Tooma Road.

The picnic and camping area is a base for short and longer walks along the Hume and Hovell Walking Track, especially walking up and downstream exploring Burra Creek and its significant mining history. Not suitable for mountain bikes, and dogs not permitted on the track which crosses private land. Information boards are located at the trackhead.

Walkers should be adequately clothed with sturdy walking boots. Maps and more information are available from the Tumbarumba Visitor Information Centre.

Boggy Creek Show


The Boggy Creek Show is an outstanding representation of Australia's unique Snowy Mountains heritage. Their presence for three generations in these wild and wonderful mountains has left them with a legacy from the past, with which they live today. Tumbafest


On the last weekend in February of each year since 1997, the township of Tumbarumba plays host to 'Tumbafest' - a celebration of music, wine and food.

Truly a celebration of country lifestyle, this two-day Festival offers something for everyone. Attractions include a jam-packed schedule of Main Stage entertainment, sublime regional wines, regional food and produce, extensive food stalls, wine tasting, a farmer's market, as well as activities and entertainment for children.

Hume Hovell Ultra


October 2016 - Hume Hovell Ultra - Located in the stunning Snowy Mountains, the Hume Hovell Ultra will challenge your ability as well as inspire your success. Run with the wild brumbies, past pioneer cottages and through rugged mountain ranges, natural forests, pine plantations, past lakes and waterfalls, along narrow winding trails with a maximum elevation of 1,400 metres on a section of the Hume and Hovell Walking Track. Join the experience. New - 100 mile and 22 kilometre to add to the previous, 100 kilometre, 100 kilometre Relay and 50 kilometre. All distances will be out and back from Henry Angel Trackhead, nine kilometres from Tumbarumba where free camping is available, also toilets, hot water in the sink and electricity.
