Centennial Park at Cooma

The lush green Centennial Park is in the centre of town and was originally designated a market square in 1849 by the white settlers of the town. The park's music shell was built in 1959 and provides a sheltered entertainment area. Also in the park is the Avenue of Flags, representing the 27 nations from which workers on the Snowy Mountains Scheme came.

Centennial Park is also home to the Cooma-Monaro Time Walk, a series of mosaics depicting the history of the Monaro. The mosaics were created by local artist Chris Graham and students at the local TAFE College in 1988 (Australia's Bicentennial Year).

Shaded trees and picnic benches make it a lovely spot to take a break during your trip.

Cooma West: Events

Australian National Busking Championships

The Australian National Busking Championships (ANBC) is now in it's fourth year. The event is held in the picturesque town of Cooma, gateway to the Snowy Mountains in Southern NSW.

The ANBC is a different sort of music festival for Australia. The ANBC is a celebration of all styles of music because the Buskers who perform bring a huge variety of music to the event.

Pre-registered Buskers are assigned special locations (Busking Hot Spots) at various times around the Central Business District of Cooma. Judges roaming throughout the day select a number of Buskers to perform at the finals concert held in Centennial Park later that afternoon.

Battle rounds are held and the judges and audience make their final decision on the winners.
