Freres Crossing Bushwalk

A very light grade bushwalk will take you through some beautiful bushland to the Georges River. Filled with native flora, including Gymea lilies, fuchsia heath and grevilleas among other nestled between scribbly gums and grey gums.

Take a look at the remains of the Freres Crossing Bridge, named after early settler George Pierre Frere, and sit and relax and the tranquil beauty that surrounds you.

Contact the Campbelltown Visitor Information Centre for a copy of the Georges River Recreation Guide, featuring information on Frere's Crossing and the other areas to visit along the Georges River.

Georges River Nature Reserve

The Georges River Nature Reserve in Campbelltown features scenic beauty, European heritage sites and is rich in Indigenous history.

The reserve is a highly significant landscape feature of the Sydney region. It is home to much of the biodiversity that can be found within the region, and a number of ecologically significant and endangered species, as well as an active and healthy Koala colony.

There are many recreational and bushwalking opportunities available within the Georges River. Frere's Crossing Reserve, Keith Longhurst Reserve, Ingleburn Reserve and Simmo's Beach Reserve all feature walks and access to the river.

Details on walking trails, maps, grades and facilities are all outlined in the Georges River Bushwalking Brochure which can be downloaded from the Macarthur website. Alternatively, contact the Campbelltown Visitor Centre to receive a copy.

Campbelltown Bicycle Education Centre

Campbelltown's Bicycle Education and Road Safety Centre provides education for cycling and pedestrian safety in a fun and safe environment.

The centre is a great place to visit with the kids, family and friends. Schools can also take advantage of the road safety education programs on offer.

The centre features a main road circuit simulating road conditions, including road signage and traffic lights, as well as a junior track for toddlers, shaded playground, picnic tables and free barbecues.

The centre can also be hired for private functions, making it an ideal venue for children's birthday parties, sports presentations and family fun days.

The centre is open to the public, free of charge, every Sunday and during the school holidays.

Visitors attending the centre must bring their own bike or scooter and helmet and must wear enclosed footwear.

Keith Longhurst Reserve

The Keith Longhurst Reserve is a 76 hectare bushland reserve with significant scenic and cultural values.

Formerly known as The Basin Reserve, the area offers a number of walking trails leading down to the Georges River, including The Basin Walking Trail and the Old Ford Road Walking Trail, which is a historic road built in the 1880s to cross the Georges River. This popular scenic waterhole showcases a small waterfall feature.

There are no formal picnic facilities or amenities located at Keith Longhurst Reserve.

The Basin Walking Track is a two kilometre return walk. The grade is medium though it does have steep sections and parts of it are a loose and rocky unsealed surface.

The Old Ford Road Walking Trackis a 2.6 kilometre return walk. The grade is medium though it does have steep sections and parts of it are a loose and rocky unsealed surface.
