The township of Jindera was officially gazetted in 1869, on land from Dight's Forest. Initially, the township consisted of a post office, general store, blacksmith, wheelwright, home nursing hospital, four hotels, two schools, butcher, baker and even a racetrack.

Today, Jindera pays homage to its roots through the award winning Jindera Pioneer Museum, where you can wander through the original Wagner's Store, see early farm machinery and even a blacksmiths forge.

Visit Jindera and taste one of Jindera Bakery's famous pies, drop into the Hotel for a cold drink or have a swing at the Jindera Golf Course. Or shop up a storm at the monthly Jindera Country Markets. In October the streets of Jindera are flooded with soft top vehicles at the annual 'Pop the Top' soft top festival.

Jindera Pioneer Museum

The Jindera Pioneer Museum is contained within a remarkable old store and home that belonged to the pioneering Wagner family. The 'store' is stocked with authentic goods of the 19th century, while the living area at the rear is furnished in its original style. Wagner's store operated into the 1950s and after it closed, a decision was taken to create the museum. All items were donated by local pioneering families. Sir Russell Drysdale declared the Jindera Museum open in 1968.

The Jindera Pioneer Museum consists of the store and house, two large galleries, authentically furnished slab hut and wattle daub cottage, a remarkable collection of farm implements and equipment and an 1872 era blacksmith shop, all set in two hectares of grounds.

Afternoon teas (Devonshire) available weekends, afternoons, or by special arrangement anytime.

Viewing time is 60 to 90 minutes.

The venue hosts live music events along with car park markets regularly (second, fourth and fifth Sunday of the month). Housing a bar, cafe and restaurant, the pub can cater for groups of all sizes with a range of souvenirs and merchandise available.
