Orion Lagoon


To cool off during a long hot Ipswich summer, you can't go past Orion Lagoon at Springfield, just a 30-minute drive from Brisbane Central Business District. Situated within Orion Springfield Central and the newest stage of the huge Robelle Domain parklands, Orion Lagoon has a vast expanse of shallow pools and water features.

The interconnected pools cater for all age groups, from the toddler-friendly 0.3 metres up to 1.5 metres for more proficient swimmers. Some are gently graded from the edge to give a beach-like effect, with one section offering aquativity features such as squirting spouts and stepping-stones. Lifeguards are on duty from 8am - 4pm from 1 April to 31 August and 5am - 9pm from 1 September to 31 March, but children under 13 must be actively supervised at all times.

Shade is provided by colourful sails and some trees over the grassed areas, while there's also a covered barbecue pavilion with picnic tables. Bring your own picnic or take advantage of the Lagoon Caf? and other nearby eating places. There are onsite lockers, and flotation devices, swimwear and pool accessories are for sale.

Robelle Domain


The Robelle Domain parklands, in Springfield Central, are a jewel in the crown of the city of Ipswich. Just half an hour from Brisbane's Central Business District, the parklands offer visitors a rainforest walk, waterfalls, water play areas, bike tracks, the country's first Icon on Galaxy interactive play equipment in an all-abilities playground, and more.

The largest park precinct built in Queensland since Brisbane's Roma Street Parklands, Robelle Domain has an 11 kilometre pathway network for family fun during the day and also at night when the 9-metre high light tower installations give off a spectacular light and sound show. Large shaded sections offer a pleasant relief from summer sun, as does the zero-depth water play area complete with a huge tipping bucket and water jets. Across a footbridge is Orion Lagoon - an amazing oasis of interconnected pools of varying depth.

A 5,000 capacity amphitheatre ensures plenty of people can come along to enjoy the public events held at Robelle Domain, including live jazz afternoons and markets. White Rock - Spring Mountain Conservation Estate


Located just 20 minutes from the Ipswich Central Business District and 35 minutes' from Brisbane Central Business District, White Rock - Spring Mountain Conservation Estate features the distinctive, sculptured, rocky outcrops of White Rock and Spring Mountain.

Covering over 2,500ha of regionally significant bushland, the Estate also features extensive forested ridges, escarpments and valleys that are home to an amazing array of plant and wildlife species.
Visitors can enjoy the full gamut of outdoor activities including hiking, bird-watching, horse riding (bring your own horses), mountain bike riding and nature study. For the bushwalker there's everything from a leisurely 200 metre walk to the more challenging 19 kilometre round trip trail with most of the trails are suitable for hiking and mountain bike riding. If you're on horseback, then the Yaddamun Trail is perfect.

The entry to the Estate is the Paperbark Flats Picnic Area, at the end of School Road in Redbank Plains. Amenities on site include toilets, picnic facilities and horse float parking. Didgeridoo Festivals


Didgeridoo Festivals near Ipswich is a didgeridoo community that brings people together through unique activities. It's located at Bellbird Park, Ipswich, just 30 minutes drive from Brisbane.

How about learning to make your own eucalyptus didgeridoo from an expert? Didgeridoo Festivals offer a two day workshop where you'll enjoy camping, story telling and making music around a camp fire, plus being served a delicious barbecue dinner and breakfast. You'll also learn basic techniques so you can play your new hand-crafted creation. Or why not try a four hour workshop or six lesson course to play like a professional?

Every first Thursday night of the month from 7pm to 10pm there is an Didgeridoo Jam at Didgeridoo Festivals HQ. And then there's the VIP Didgeridoo Camp out featuring didgeridoo virtuoso's from around the world who perform and teach advanced techniques. It'll be an amazing and memorable experience.

Ipswich visitors can also pop into the Didgeridoo Festivals Shop where they can buy a handcrafted instrument made by local artists, which comes with a free lesson and certificate of authenticity. Proceeds support the Yothu Yindi Foundation.

Just Jump Trampoline Park and Play Centre


If you're in or near Ipswich, the kids don't have to drive you wild jumping all over the furniture when Just Jump Trampoline Park and Play Centre gives them hours of fun - open seven days a week.

Didgeridoo Jam


Every first Thursday night of the month from 7pm to 10pm they have their Didgeridoo Jam at Didgeridoo Festivals HQ in Bellbird Park. Come in and have a jam or bring a blanket and relax, kick back and listen to a mix of instruments combined with the Didgeridoo. They are a didgeridoo community with a unique gathering of instruments surrounded by gum trees and friendly wildlife.

Didgeridoo Bush Camp


Didgeridoo Bush Camp is a three day Didgeridoo event for boys and men of all ages and levels. The Didgeridoo workshops and live performances are done by world beat and dynamic didgeridoo artist Khygy and multicultural didgeridoo band Serpent Tales. The weekend also includes the opportunity to make your own Didgeridoo. We acknowledge and pay respect to the Traditional Owners of Ipswich; the Yagara Language Group: Jagera, Yuggera and Ugarapul.

Fifty years of living in early Ipswich with the Thorn Family


The presenter, Margaret Nicol, is the great great granddaughter of the Thorns and will follow the development of Ipswich from 1839 through to 1889. She will present a slideshow and take you back to when the Thorn family arrived and when Jane Thorn was the only white woman in Limestone Station. Fifty years later and what a difference - Limestone Station was then the municipality of Ipswich and was well on its way to becoming the city it is today. Margaret will take you back to an era when life was tough (but exciting) for the pioneers .
