Gowake Cable Park


GoWake Cable Park Mackay is Australia's newest Cable Wakepark. Located five minutes from the heart of Mackay and only a stone's throw away from some of Australia's most pristine beaches and reefs teeming with tropical marine life.

GoWake Cable Park caters for beginners wanting to kneeboard or wakeboard right through to advanced riders wanting to master the sport in a controlled environment. All basic equipment along with comprehensive safety briefing and on dock coaching is provided.

Beginner, Ladies only and advanced ride clinics operate before general opening hours and are capped at 20 people. The perfect opportunity to learn with a small group of people or master new tricks.

Gowake Cable Park hosts two kickers, two fun boxes and three rails which keep even the most talented riders busy. This unique community also boasts a craft coffee espresso bar brewing Tim Adams specialty coffee.

Gooseponds, North Mackay


The Gooseponds in North Mackay are a combination of popular walking tracks around a large central wetland lagoon, an initiative of Mackay Regional Council's 10,000 steps program. There are also a number of exercise stations along the walk giving fitness fanatics a varied workout. The ponds are home to a variety of bird life, including geese, ducks and pelicans.

As a designated off leash area there is plenty of open space for your pet to play. The walk also passes the popular Goosepond dog park, giving dog owners a variety of options for entertaining their pooch.

The Gooseponds Walk pathway in North Mackay starts behind Wheeler Drive, Glenella and stretches through to Evans Avenue. The walking trail passes under the Bruce Highway, offering a safe crossing option, and includes multiple access points and a few large loops along the way, totalling close to 8 kilometres of shared pathway.

For shorter walk options, begin your walk from Walter's Parade, from the 'Goose Walk' turnoff on Malcomson Street.

Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens


Located just five kilometres from the Mackay City Centre, the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens showcases the beautiful tropical flora from Mackay and the Whitsundays, along with other beautiful Australian native and exotic plants from similar climates around the world. This young botanic garden opened in 2003 and provides many resources to visitors - from over three kilometres of walking and cycling trails, wetland boardwalks, a unique cafe and gallery perched high above the wildlife filled lagoons, to excellent bird watching opportunities. Pioneer Swim Centre


Set within landscaped gardens in the John Breen Park recreational precinct in North Mackay, Pioneer Swim Centre provides convenient access to all patrons.

Memorial Swim Centre


Memorial Swim Centre is located on the fringe of Mackay's central business district on Milton Street, adjacent to one of the city's largest shopping centres, Caneland Central and the Pioneer River precinct.

In the winter season, it is Mackay's only heated public aquatic facility, using pool blankets and heating systems to achieve a constant temperature of 26 degrees Celsius. This is in both the 50 metre Olympic length pool and the toddler pool, to offer patrons comfortable swimming facilities year-round.
