Belli Park: Where To Go / Sightseeing

Eumundi Markets

The Eumundi Market is Australia's biggest and best art, craft and produce market, held every Saturday and Wednesday of the year (rain, hail or shine) in the heart of the charming historic hinterland town of Eumundi.

Established back in 1979, the world-renowned Eumundi Markets is like an outdoor gallery, with towering heritage listed fig trees rising above the 500 plus stalls.

The market's policy of 'make it, bake it, sew it or grow it' ensures quality products and the very best of locally produced goods. You will discover original artworks, sculptures, and furniture, handmade toys, homewares, and skincare, cutting edge fashion and jewellery by local designers, as well as fresh local produce and fabulous food to enjoy while you explore Eumundi.

There is always a stellar line-up of world-class musicians and talented street performers, as well as face painters, and alternative therapists offering massages, palm readings and more.

Eumundi War Memorial

Visitors to the Sunshine Coast's popular Eumundi markets often admire mature figs, camphor laurels, lillypillies, flame trees and a jacaranda along the town's main thoroughfare without knowing their significance.

The Eumundi Women's Patriotic Committee raised ?100 for the planting of 20 trees, representing local lives lost in WWI. Between 1914 and 1918, 87 men from Eumundi and the surrounding district enlisted.

Memorial avenues were an uncommon choice in Queensland although many flourished in southern states. Originally figs were planted to create Eumundi's memorial drive. Only five have survived. Replantings introduced the mixture of trees. Every tree had a unique bronze tablet bearing in brass letters the name, unit, date and place of death of a deceased soldier. Over time some were lost. The 12 remaining plaques now can be found in the Eumundi Historical Museum.

Eumundi is one of the few towns in Queensland without a monumental type WWI memorial.

The trees provide a focal point for remembrance ceremonies, particularly on ANZAC Day when school children place floral tributes at the base of each tree.

Delicia Road Conservation Park

Delicia Road Conservation Park on the scenic Blackall Range is a small park protecting remnant forest communities. It is a refuge for wildlife and a special place where visitors can enjoy a peaceful native forest. The land was generously donated by Linda Garrett. Locals refer to it as Linda Garrett Park. Walk the easy 2.2 kilometre Linda Garrett circuit through rainforest, a palm grove and tall, wet eucalypt forest. Enjoy a section of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk. Along Gheerulla Creek, look for a great barred frog. Birdwatchers may be fortunate to hear the melodic, drumming call of the endangered marbled frogmouth.

Go on some of the many walks, ranging from a short stroll to a challenging hike up to Mount Allan fire tower. See plantations and varied forest types on the forest drive. Allow at least 90 minutes for the drive and extra time for picnics and bushwalks. From Booloumba Falls carpark, take a 3km return walk past cascades to The Breadknife rock formation. Birdwatchers will enjoy Little Yabba Creek, while mountain bike and horse riders can explore four wheel drive tracks.

Mary River Festival

The Mary River Festival, held each year in Kandanga in early November has acquired a reputation of being one of the friendliest, most laid back festivals you'd find, with a great mix of top music, art, kid's activities and much much more.

This festival runs on a not for profit basis with an incredibly lean budget, through the generous involvement of local community groups, as well as a number of individuals, and enjoys wonderful support from musicians and participants.

As well as the sense of community though, what really powers this festival is the exuberance unleashed in 2009, after Peter Garrett gave the federal thumbs-down on the Traveston Crossing Dam proposal. It was that enormous relief and the grabbing in both hands of the ongoing environmental stewardship of the Mary River that runs through every part of this festival.
