Mount Tyson

Mount Tyson is a small town set amongst the grain and cattle farms of the Darling Downs. It's an easy 35 minute drive west from Toowoomba The locals of this town are truly proud of their 'tidy town' title won over many years, while the town can be said to be at its most beautiful as the jacarandas come into bloom in October and early November.

Just west of the town is the very well known Adora Downs Host Farm which mostly caters to groups for events such as weddings and reunions.

Pittsworth Historical Pioneer Village and Museum


The Pittsworth Pioneer Historical Village brings to life a bygone time, The Village consists of the former Pittsworth Post Office, the telephone exchange, the post masters residence, the former one teacher school, a fully furnished cottage (circa 1900) and a blacksmith shop.

Explore working life in the early days with displays of farm machinery and cheese making equipment (Pittsworth was once home to nine cheese makers!)

There are numerous displays including clothing, lace work, early settlers hand tools, and a 1928 Austin Tourer car in original condition. Displays of memorabilia record the feats of Arthur Postle, one time Australian and world's fastest athlete. He was born in the Pittsworth district.

The Woolshed at Jondaryan


The Woolshed at Jondaryan is a wonderful place to stay or visit. Located just 40 kilometres west of Toowoomba, the Woolshed offers caravan, camping or cabin accommodation, a modern Cafe Restaurant and the Woolshed Museum. Enjoy a self guided tour through the original buildings and historic shearing shed. Australian Army Flying Museum


Experience the adventure and romance of our military pioneer aviators and see the progression from "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines" to present day. Marvel at their courage and view the historic aircraft and memorabilia on display since World War I.

Visitors to the museum will see many beautifully presented aircraft with strong connections to Army aviation that have been restored to original condition. Also, there are images, video and valuable memorabilia from World War l, to current operations overseas where the Australian Army is using aviation resources.

The Museum houses replicas of the three original aircraft first flown by Military pilots in 1910-1912 being the Boxkite, Deperdussin and Bleriot.

During World War II, Number 6 Aircraft Depot was established at Oakey as a key RAAF station in the South West Pacific area. Aircraft such as Beaufort, Boomerang, Kittyhawk, Lancaster, Mustang, Norseman, Spitfire and Wirraway were serviced, repaired and test flown here until February 1946.

The Jackie Howe Festival of the Golden Shears


The Jackie Howe Festival of the Golden Shears is an iconic three day event celebrating the sheep and wool industry of the Darling Downs. The festival is held on the grounds of the original Jondaryan Woolshed and recreates the life of shearers and their families during the 1890's. Relive the 1890's period of Australiana complete with a family day out of shearing competitions, delicious food, family activities and entertainment, steam-powered shearing stands, and a re-enactment of the Woolshed in its heyday with elevated viewing platforms right amongst the shearing action.

The black tie Gala Banquet and Runway to Runway Fashion Show is held on the Friday night within the Woolshed building itself. Enjoy a delicious three course meal and a world class fashion show presented by Colleen Cuneo showcasing the best of Australian designers.

Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport


The gateway to Toowoomba and Southern Queensland, Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport is Australia's first privately-funded public airport and the first public airport to be built in Australia in 50 years.
