Woodville

Woodville is part of the Switched on City of Charles Sturt, a municipality which supports 102,000 people living in the corridor between the Adelaide CBD and a 13km coastline that stretches from the historic Port Adelaide precinct in the north to West Beach in the south.

The coastal stretch also embraces such popular metropolitan beaches and aquatic playgrounds as Grange and Henley. It is a coastline that includes two popular jetties and the last remnants of natural sand dunes in the metropolitan area.

Its tourist-attracting energy apart, Charles Sturt is just 10 minutes from the action of Adelaide City, from the International Airport, from the West Lakes rowing facility, from the living history of the Port and from a host of large sporting complexes.

The sports-oriented municipality hosts Football Park, Hindmarsh Stadium, the Clipsal Powerhouse and such notable and challenging golf courses as the Grange, Royal Adelaide and Kooyonga which flanks the airport.

Royal Adelaide Golf Club

The Royal Adelaide Golf Club links at Seaton has been the venue for many international and interstate matches and championships.

The club has hosted nine Open Championships of Australia and 16 Amateur Championships of Australia. The Australian Ladies Amateur and Open Championships have also been played over the links. A one-of-a-kind course, Royal Adelaide has changed substantially over the years, yet retained its fundamental character and charm.

Royal Adelaide retains the distinctive character of a comparatively open links course, an attribute by no means common in this country. It is this character which members and visitors alike recognise as a priceless asset in a golf course situated so close to a major city. Taken as a whole, the Seaton course, with its wide open spaces, poses more problems than appear at first sight, except under the most benign conditions. Most members are more than happy to complete their round having played to their handicaps.

Hindmarsh Historical Fire And Folk Museum

The Hindmarsh Historical Fire and Folk Museum was one of the first historical societies in South Australia and its aim was to preserve memorabilia from the Hindmarsh area for future generations to see and enjoy.

The Museum is located in the previous Volunteers Fire Brigade building and an extensive collection of memorabilia from the Brigade forms the basis of our collection.

The Hindmarsh Volunteers Fire Brigade was the second volunteer fire brigade in the state; Norwood was opened three months earlier. The Brigade was operational from 1884 to 1942 when the government disbanded it during the Second World War and the Metropolitan Fire Brigade took over the responsibilities.

The fully restored 1927 Chevrolet Fire Engine used by the Brigade is on display and used in historical parades from time to time and an original Wooden Hand Cart, circa 1890, used by the fire fighters is also displayed.
