Historic Clan Ranald Shipwreck Graves

You can find out more about the tragedy of the historic Clan Ranald at the Edithburgh Museum and visit the graves to pay your respects to the lives lost in this unfortunate shipwreck.

The turret deck ship SS Clan Ranald, was wrecked off of Troubridge Hill in January 1909 with the loss of forty lives. Loaded mostly with wheat and flour at Port Adelaide, she was bound for South Africa when shifting of the cargo ultimately caused the tragedy.

Of the lives lost, 36 bodies were recovered including five Officers and 31 'Lascars'. They were interred at Edithburgh Cemetery with much kindness from the local people of this tiny little community. The cemetery is open all hours.

Edithburgh Playground

The Edithburgh community have worked hard for a number of years to provide the Edithburgh Playground for every-one.

This is a fantastic facility. - whether it's playing on the equipment or in the sand, there is plenty to keep the kids amused for hours. Take along a picnic or the makings of a barbecue and take advantage of the facilities available, with plenty of shade and seating. Public toilets available.

Edithburgh Tidal Pool

The Edithburgh Tidal Pool provides a safe and unique place to swim.

Originally the tidal pool was on the southern side of the jetty to cater for the ladies as mixed bathing was not permitted in the 1880s. As time went by they decided to build another pool for men. The jetty was a very busy port so very often no one was able to swim in the area around it, so the pool provided a safe alternative. The mens pool remains and continues to provide this today.

The pool has undergone a number of facelifts over the years. Swimming lessons are offered via the Vacswim program, contact them for details.
