Yankalilla

In August 1994 an image of the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared on the wall of the Anglican church in Yankalilla. Since 1996 pilgrims have been coming to this church from all over the world. Yankalilla is the world's newest Marian Shrine. It is also the second known apparition of Mary in an Anglican church. Yankalilla Historical Museum


The Yankalilla Historical Museum has an extensive collection reflecting rural and social life of the district.

Yankalilla district has a unique history and has one of the most diverse and extensive collections of memorabilia relating to early country life in the state. Themes include agriculture, mining, maritime, domestic life and trades. There is also an extensive photographic collection.

The Museum is run by a dedicated and enthusiastic band of volunteers.

Yankalilla Memorial Park


The Yankalilla Memorial Park is home to the Yankalilla Golf Course, and a variety of Yankalilla sporting clubs including the Bowls Club, Netball Club, Football Club, Hockey Club, and Tennis Club.

The complex is located behind the Yankalilla Bakery and entry is located at the side of the bakery.

The park also offers barbecue and picnic facilities, public toilets, a playground, and a large oval and a public golf course with an honesty box.

The Yankalilla Memorial Park is the ideal place to stop for a picnic en route to Cape Jervis and the Sealink Kangaroo Island ferry.

Normanville Hotel


Established in 1851 by Robert Norman, the Normanville Hotel is well over 160 years old! Some original wooden roof shingles remain in the roof cavity above the bar.

The hotel hosted the first meeting of the newly formed Yankalilla District Council in 1854. Court hearings were also held at the hotel until the local courthouse was built.

Many old bottles, coins and other historic items were discovered over the years. Some of these items are on display in the hotel. Old photos of the district are also on display. The hotel is featured in a local history trail.

The hotel was beautifully refurbished and expanded in 2003 to offer modern dining and function facilities while respecting the historic character and charm of the building. An outdoor dining area was added in 2013.

Situated in the seaside village of Normanville, the historic hotel offers friendly service, fresh a la carte dining, bar and take-away services with a strong emphasis on local products including locally produced wines and craft beer.

Myponga Market


The Myponga Market is located on the edge of the Myponga Reservoir, a beautiful drive south of Adelaide.

Enjoy magnificent views and explore over 100 stalls spread throughout 2000 square meters of the Old Myponga Cheese Factory.

Stalls include selections of bric-a-brac, retro-chic furniture, vintage tools, collectables and a treasure trove of rare vinyl recordings. Other stall highlights include local produce, freshly pressed olive oil and a coin dealer. There is also an old sweet shop, speciality soaps and a delightful cafe.

Deep Creek Conservation Park


Come and experience a wide range of activities such as bushwalking on an extensive network of trails, camping in five campgrounds and viewing the spectacular scenery of Backstairs Passage, Kangaroo Island and the rugged Deep Creek valley.

Deep Creek Conservation Park is the largest portion of remaining natural vegetation on the Fleurieu Peninsula and is home to an array of native wildlife such as western grey kangaroos, short beaked echidnas and 100 species of birds that can be heard and seen while walking in the park.

Deep Creek is the only national park within 100km of Adelaide that offers bush camping. Four campgrounds are accessible by 2WD and one is 'hike-in' only and situated on the Heysen trail, making it an ideal environment for a family adventure.

The 15 walking trails in the park provide spectacular scenery of Backstairs Passage, Kangaroo Island and the rugged Deep Creek Valley. The walks range from easy to very difficult so accommodating for all ages and abilities. The walking trail network in Deep Creek Conservation Park includes sections of the famous Heysen Trail.

Yankalilla Show


The 135th Annual Yankalilla, Rapid Bay and Myponga Agricultural and Horticultural Society Incorporated show will be held on the Saturday of the October long weekend

South Australian Open Town Crying Championships


A major Town crying event to be held in Victor Harbor in conjunction with the Encounter Celebrations 0n April 8th 2017.

Yankalilla: Travel Tips

Yankalilla Bay Visitor Information Centre


The Yankalilla Bay Visitor Information Centre, located on the Fleurieu Way at Yankalilla, is a nationally accredited Visitor Information Centre so you can be assured of quality service at all times. Open weekdays between 9am and 5pm, Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays from 10am to 4pm.

The Centre operates a booking service for the ferry to Kangaroo Island and houses an array of information on local attractions and events, as well as providing public internet access and selling a range of souvenirs. The Yankalilla District Historic Museum operates seven days a week.

Call in to the Yankalilla Bay Visitor Information Centre and you will find out there are plenty of thing to see and do from bushing walk in Deep Creek Conservation Park, diving the ex HMAS Hobart, fishing and snorkelling at one our pristine beaches or you could check out Ingalalla water falls or indulge at one of the award winning cafes and wineries.
