Kangaroo Island

Kangaroo Island is one of Australia’s great natural wonders. It is often referred to as the ‘zoo without fences’ where you can see Australian animals in their natural habitat. See a colony of sea lions basking in the sun at Seal Bay, playful fur seals at Cape du Couedic in Flinders National Park and spot little penguins at dusk from Kingscote or Penneshaw.

Its spectacular coastline provides stunning scenery, excellent swimming and surfing beaches and rugged cliffs. Walk amongst amazing rock formations, Remarkable Rocks, huge weathersculpted granite boulders. With over 480 kilometres of coastline, you can stretch out in your very own secret spot.

The island has a growing reputation as a food and wine region. Dine on fresh seafood, taste the locally produced wines, hand made cheeses, honey and delicious yoghurt from a sheep dairy farm.

Accessible by Cape Jervis or by plane from Adelaide, you can visit for a day or stay on the island to thoroughly explore its natural beauty.

Competition golf is played in the wintertime from March to October and visitors are always welcome. Competition days are on Sunday for men, hit off 12pm and ladies play on Tuesday, hit off 9.30am there is ample room on the course for people who simply wish to have a hit on those days.

The course is 5,199 metres, par 70 and has an Australian course rating of 65.

Parndana Soldier Settlement Museum

The Parndana Soldier Settlement Museum is a modern historical display telling the stories of the development of the soldier settlement scheme in the early 1950s. A short stop will give you a snapshot of the lives of the settler's. Tales of logging, chaining, dozing and lavvy lane will capture your imagination. In an era before 240 volt power, good roads and telephones, the innovation and humour shown by this generation is a delight.

The hall was built by the Returned Services League and dedicated as a memorial to Soldier Settlement, the building now contains memorabilia, photographs and stories relating to the development of Parndana and surrounding districts. The museum tells of how the land was cleared and improved for farming. The stories tell of their experiences, hardships, fellowship and humour that saw them successfully reshape their lives and build a community to be proud of.

Monument To Soldier Settlement Scheme

The Monument to Soldier Settlement is situated at the Parndana Soldier Settlement Museum, located in the R.S.L. (Returned Servicemen's League) at Parndana.

The Sir Cecil Hinks plough is a symbol of the land clearing that took place in late 1940 and early 1950 on Kangaroo Island. Sir Cecil Hinks was Minister of Lands during the major period of operations.

All that remains of the camp is the gantry that was used to unload the trucks and all the equipment as it arrived and some concrete blocks where the workshops were.

The former Kangaroo Island Research Centre is now home to forestry operations on Kangaroo Island and houses a pine log milling plant. Housing is privately owned. The former administration building has been converted into Timber Creek Lodge tourist accommodation.

Andermel Marron

Marron - the island's prized freshwater crayfish - doesn't come any fresher. Visitors can take a tour of the marron shed and have tastings of our wines and sauces before partaking of a fine meal in the cafe.

Flavours such as lemon myrtle, aniseed myrtle, (grown on our property), local Kangaroo Island honey and mountain pepper feature in our meals, and in our sauces which are also made on site.

Of course, such a meal isn't really complete without a fine wine, and the cafe boasts its own label, Two Wheeler Creek. Diners can choose from a sparkling white, sparkling Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz - all made from grapes grown on the farm's vineyard.

It's without doubt a complete food and wine experience that captures everything special about Kangaroo Island. And those visitors who still want more can buy marron at the farm and taste the wines at the Two Wheeler Creek cellar door, where sales are available.

Kitchen closes at 4pm daily except for Winter when kitchen closes at 3pm. Winter opening time 12pm to 3.30pm.
