Mount Gambier Railway Lands


The Mount Gambier Railway Lands is a dynamic, multipurpose, public space which enhances the unused rail corridor. It is a unique and exciting environment in the heart of the City. Markets, concerts, films, art works, pop up food, bars, fitness activities and community events are all held in a range of unique areas, including an amphitheatre, a large events plaza, raised sheltered market platform and open grassland. Children of all ages love exploring in the unique Nature Play Area.

Mount Gambier Aquatic Centre


The Mount Gambier Aquatic Centre is seen as a major leisure facility for the residents of both the southeastern corner of South Australia and the western district of Victoria.

Facilities:

Giant inflatables - retain your balance against the obstacles and make the length of this giant airbed that sits atop the Olympic pool.

Full sized Olympic pool - this pool is heated to a considerably warm 27 degrees Celsius and is primarily used for recreational swimming, squad training, lap swimming and higher-level swimming lessons.

Wading pool - heated to 31 degrees Celsius and is primarily used for recreational swimming, rehabilitation exercises and the lower level lessons.

Toddler's pool - heated to 27 degrees Celsius and allows caregivers to cool off or build the confidence of the real young ones.

Beach volleyball court and free barbecue facilities.

Group bookings after hours are available by appointment.

Engelbrecht Cave


Engelbrecht Cave is one of the Limestone Coasts fascinating cave sites. Inside the cave you will find a viewing platform and much of the cave is accessible to divers. It is a unique cave close to the centre of Mount Gambier. Take a tour to discover why cave divers swim through the water filled passages under the streets and roads of the city. Cafes available selling artisan food and gifts.

Engelbrecht Cave is well worth a visit for both cave divers and for those who simply wish to enjoy the beauty of the caves. Fully guided tours of two caves are available, lasting between 45 to 60 minutes.

Cave Garden


Situated in the centre of the city, the Cave Garden features a sinkhole that was the original source of water for the early settlers. Its beauty and significance can be appreciated from the viewing platforms which hang dramatically over the sinkhole. A bonus in wet weather is the spectacular waterfall.

Every evening a spectacular sound and light show tells our Indigenous Dreamtime stories. Best viewed down in the cave, times vary due to season and daylight savings.

Beautiful roses are a stunning feature of the famous Cave Garden, a state heritage area. With its historic garden flowing deep into the sinkhole, this area is a great meeting place for locals.

The Main Corner


The Main Corner emerges from the historic dolomite building, connecting Mount Gambier's history, with interactive displays that will appeal to adults and children alike. A diorama brings to life the Wreck of the Admella and touch screens tell the history of Mount Gambier. Incorporating the Riddoch Art Gallery, South Australia's premier regional Gallery, featuring local collections, changing exhibitions of local artists as well as exhibitions of national importance. The gallery also showcases local artists, community groups and both state and national touring exhibitions. The Main Corner is also home to daily screenings of the movie 'Volcano', the story of Earth, Fire and Water. Beginning with the Aboriginal Dreamtime story of the Craitbul and his giant ovens. This big screen cinematic experience wows the senses as it weaves its way through its incredible story of how eight major eruptions created Mount Gambier. This exciting adventure takes you through the spectacular history of eruptions that shaped the Kanawinka region. Screens at 1.00pm and 3.00pm weekdays and 11.00am and 1.00pm weekends and most public holidays. *screening times may vary due to special functions.

The Red Hot Summer Tour is back in Mount Gambier in 2018 with one of the biggest and best line ups yet, including Suzi Quatro, The Angels, Baby Animals, The Screaming Jets, Moving Pictures and Chocolate Starfish!

Mount Gambier Christmas Parade 2017


The Mount Gambier Christmas Parade draws people from around the region who line the main street to view the annual Parade running from Commercial Street East to Vansittart Park in Commercial Street West. You will find fun for all ages with Christmas themed floats, Giant Christmas tree, Father Christmas plus many more!

The Parade starts at 11am and continues for approximately one hour. Walking along the parade will be clowns and brass bands from local and interstate. The local community, schools and organisations get behind this event every year with prizes offered for the best float and entrant in various categories. Father Christmas always makes a special appearance at the end of the float. In 2017 the Mount Gambier Christmas Parade is celebrating its 58th year.

Blue Lake Y Annual Swim Carnival


This two day event is a national qualifying swim meet with 145 events in categories from eight years and under to open.

Events range from 50 metres to the longer 800 and 1500 metre races and also include multi-class events for swimmers with a disability.

Competitors attend from both metropolitan and regional South Australian swimming clubs.
