Engelbrecht Cave

Engelbrecht Cave is one of the Limestone Coasts fascinating cave sites. Inside the cave you will find a viewing platform and much of the cave is accessible to divers.

The Cave Divers Association has surveyed and mapped the cave system and you'll find maps, videos and other information in the visitors hut.

After decades of use as a rubbish dump by private owners, in 1979 the Lions Club of Mount Gambier decide to make it their project of beautifying the cave. After much time and effort, the project was completed and the cave handed over to the local council.

Today, Engelbrecht Cave is well worth a visit for both cave divers and for those who simply wish to enjoy the beauty of the caves. Fully guided tours of two caves are available, lasting between 45 to 60 minutes.

Cave Gardens

Situated in the centre of the city, Cave Gardens feature a sinkhole that was the original source of water for the early settlers. Its beauty and significance can be appreciated from the viewing areas above and you can also walk down into the cave and venture out onto the suspended viewing platforms for an awesome view into the cave.

Every evening a spectacular sound and light show tells our Indigenous Dreamtime stories. Best viewed down in the cave, times vary due to season and daylight savings.

The cave has recently undergone major re-development, which includes the filtering of the water, viewing platforms and floodlighting. Christmas lights and a nativity scene are featured from late November to January.

Famous for its roses, the Cave Gardens is a great place for a picnic.
