Clarendon

Clarendon is a National Trust property located near Evandale in northern Tasmania. Set in seven hectares on the banks of the South Esk River, Clarendon was the centre of a large pastoral enterprise developed by James Cox. Complete with servants wing and many farm buildings the House is surrounded by extensive gardens and parklands which can be explored. The grand colonial house, built in 1838, is beautifully designed with grand hallways and grand Roman columns at the entrance.

Wander the property, where back in the nineteenth century, convict labour ensured the farmland remained well-watered and fertile.

Clarendon is around 25 minutes' drive (27 kilometres/17 miles) from Launceston, south of Evandale along the C416 road.

Australian Fly Fishing Museum


The Australian Fly Fishing Museum at Clarendon collects, preserves, protects and celebrates the art, the craft and the joy of fly fishing.
Come and see intriguing artefacts that tell the story of the traditions and techniques of fly fishing. The museum promotes the values of fly fishing, especially respect for the habitats of fly responsive fish.
There are displays of artifacts of well known fly fishing identities.
It is a national gathering place for anglers, conducts educational programs in fly casting, fly tying, fishing etiquette, angling history, river ecology and aquatic insects.
The museum is situated on the grounds of Clarendon, a stunning historic estate on the banks of the South Esk, a renowned fly fishing river.

This fabulous collection is for anglers, history buffs, and lovers of a good story.

You can pay entry just for the Museum or to the whole Clarendon site including Museum and a house tour. National Trust and Australian Fly Fishing Museum members have free entry.

Open Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 10am - 4pm.

Evandale Market


The Evandale market is a popular country market in historic Evandale in Tasmania's North.
Come and be a part of one of Tasmania's favourite markets with over 100 stalls, including a wide range of wares from high quality crafts to bric-a-brac for every budget. There are also plenty of food stalls and children's amusements.
Evandale is a lovely Georgian village with well preserved cottages, houses, churches, inns and shops. It is a great place for browsing in antique galleries and art and craft shops. The Launceston airport lies between Evandale and Launceston. You can also visit other historic towns nearby including Longford and Westbury. A short drive into Launceston will offer you a host of street-side cafes, boutique shops and leafy city parks. You can also head down the Tamar Valley Wine Route to sample some of Tasmania's finest cool climate wines.
The market is open every Sunday from 0800 to 1400. Evandale is located just 15 km south of Launceston.

Evandale Village Fair and National Penny Farthing Championships


The wheels of time turn back 100 years as the historic village of Evandale plays host to The Evandale Village Fair and National Penny Farthing Championships.
The Evandale Village Fair is held annually and features a full program of Penny Farthing racing including the National Penny Farthing Championship.
Penny farthing enthusiasts converge on Evandale from throughout Australia and overseas to vie for a series of races, held on a triangular circuit in the centre of the village. Market stalls and a variety of entertainments are situated in the streets and parks surrounding the race circuit, creating the ambience of a colonial country fair.
The event includes the Penny Farthing Food Fest in Pioneer Park, a wide variety of stalls offering craft, bric-a-brac and cycling memorabilia, street entertainers, clowns, music, displays of veteran and vintage cars, traction engines and horses and carriages. plus pony rides for the children and puppet shows.

Clarendon Road Race


The Road Race is held over 30km. Starting from Evandale the race heads north to Perth before going back through Evandale to the finish at historic Clarendon Homestead. The fastest riders take just over an hour to complete the course, with many riders opting for the more leisurely social ride from Evandale directly to Clarendon.

Evandale Visitor Information and History Centre


At the Evandale Visitor Information Centre will help you plan your activities when you visit Tasmania's Northern Midlands. In our bright, spacious and sun filled centre, we have a history centre, history displays, gifts and souvenirs, and friendly, local volunteers to assist you.
Turn left when you leave the airport and you'll find us a five minutes up the road.
We are open 10am - 4pm daily.
