Launceston Avalon Market is situated at Avalon Estate in Newstead. Housing the largest specimens of felled Huon Pine in the world, the building is an incredible landmark in Launceston and is open to the public each Market day.

You will be greeted by rows of established red Oak trees under which friendly chickens roam during the day. Trees Adventure - Underwood Park


Trees Adventure Underwood Park is one of newest ultimate Treetop experiences in the Tasmania.
It features exciting and challenging courses that become increasingly difficult as you climb higher into the canopy, which means that you can find the right level to suit you between two and 25 metres up. In a two hour session, you will be swinging, leaping, climbing and flying through the Pine Trees of Hollybank Forests.
This will suit all the family from four to 75 years and over, with a total of seven courses to choose from and over 70 challenges including ten flying foxes. It is made for the whole family. Bookings are essential.
Located at Hollybank Treetops Adventure, you could even have a whole day out and take on a Segway Tour or a Zipline Canopy Tour.

Hollybank Forest Reserve


Hollybank Forest Reserve is just a 20-minute drive from Launceston.
This is one of Tasmania's most popular picnic areas and has a distinctly European flavour. In autumn, exotic deciduous trees are a colourful contrast to the natives.
A 40-minute walk passes through examples of Tasmania's major production forest types in a demonstration forest. Interpretive signs show how each forest type is harvested and regenerated.
The reserve also contains 20 kilometres of dedicated world-class mountain bike trails descending through the forest with short and long loops suitable for beginner and advanced riders.
For the more adventurous there's a ten kilometre descent called the Juggernaut that will challenge the best of riders.

National Automobile Museum of Tasmania


The National Automobile Museum of Tasmania in Launceston features one of Australia's most significant motoring collections. Spanning over one hundred years of style and technical achievement this impressive collection of traditional and contemporary automobiles is a must see for all those who appreciate history, design, engineering and style.
The museum comes alive with four sensational theme displays each year as well as constantly changing exhibits in the main hall and a mezzanine floor packed with motorcycles. Free Lantern Making Workshop


Tamar Valley Steiner School would like to invite you and your family along to our FREE Lantern Making Workshop, with all materials provided!
This will be in preparation for our Lantern Walk community event being held the weekend after - Friday May 12th 2017!
The workshops are for the public, with adults and children welcome, however children who attend will need to be supervised by an accompanying adult.
Workshops will be 1 hour long, with three separate time slots:
11:00 - 12:00pm
12:00 - 1:00pm
1:00 - 2:00pm
Five styles of lanterns will be offered at each hour slot:
1. Water colour round paper lantern with finger knitted wool handle
2. Water colour square paper lantern with Autumn leaves stuck on for decoration, wool handle
3. White A3 paper round lanterns decorated with crayon leaf rubbings and finger knitted handle
4. Tin Can lanterns with see through patterns and wire handle
5. Folded Fancy Paper lantern (for older children 8+ yrs), wool handle
There will be a maximum of 8 people, per lantern style, per hour.

Thoroughbred Night Racing Under Lights


The Tasmanian Turf Club at the Luxbet Racing Centre is home to Tasmania's most prestigious horse race the Luxbet Launceston Cup and home to Thoroughbred Night Racing under Lights. Experience the excitement of thoroughbred night racing under lights. Our complex offers an exciting, up-close personal entertainment experience like no other. The Tasmanian Turf Club is committed to maintaining a high standard of excellence and making sure you have a night to remember. We also have some day meetings.
The Luxbet Racing Centre is located approximately three kilometres from the heart of Launceston and is easily accessed by bus or taxi. Entry to the course is $7 and $4 for pensioners. Launceston City Park Lantern Walk


The Lantern Walk is a time to honour the seasonal transition from Autumn to Winter and our beautiful lanterns represent us taking our light into the darker, shorter days.
Proceeding peacefully along lantern lit paths, we carry our handmade lanterns, and all those walking sing traditional Lantern Walk songs that encourage us to be the warmth and light for ourselves and for others. This festival celebrates hope and kindness, and reminds us all of our shared humanity.
It is a time to celebrate generosity towards others.
We have also partnered with St Vincent de Paul and we will be asking for donations of warm blankets, clothing or money to help with the work that they do in providing for people in need in our community over the colder months.
Bring: a home-made lantern, spare tea-light candles and long matches and any donations of warm clothing or blankets for the St Vincent de Paul Society.
Please dress warmly. Head torches for adults can be helpful as the sun sets and darkness falls.
This event is suited to people of all ages and is pram and wheelchair accessible. Children under 16 must be supervised.
