Pyengana Dairy Company

The Pyengana Dairy Company makes award-winning, traditional cheeses, in Pyengana, north east Tasmania.
Pyengana is an Aboriginal word meaning the meeting of two rivers - and the Pyengana Dairy Company sits in this lush river valley favoured by dairy farmers. Tasty, sturdy cheeses have been made using traditional methods at Pyengana for more than 100 years, and cheese makers under the guidance of master cheese maker, Jon Healey, still use equipment from that time. You can watch cheese being made, sample some of Pyengana's award-winning produce and then buy your own hearty, mature cheddar. Or perhaps take home a fresh, cloth-wrapped cheese and lay it down to mature over winter. Visit the Dairy Shop for fresh milkshakes and cakes or browse the range of locally-made crafts and pottery.
You can also visit some of the area's waterfalls including the cascading St Columba Falls, plunging nearly 90 metres/295 feet from the Mount Victoria foothills to the South George River valley.
Pyengana is a half hour drive from the north east coastal town of St Helens (27 kilometres/17 miles) and an hour from Scottsdale (73 kilometres/45 miles).

Priory Ridge Wines Cellar Door

Priory Ridge Wines is the only boutique vineyard and cellar door in the St. Helens area.
The vineyard and cellar door are just a 10-minute drive from the world famous Bay of Fires. Situated in the rural setting of Priory, at 280 Ansons Bay Road, it is the most northern of East Coast Tasmanian vineyards.
The ideal micro climate and location of the Priory Ridge Vineyard together with its unique Devonian granite soil, produces full bodied Pinot Noir and aromatic whites: Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Traminer.
All grapes from the Priory Ridge Vineyard are hand-picked, graded and fermented in their own natural yeasts. In traditional French style, the Pinot Noir matures in French oak barrels, whilst the Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay are fermented and matured in French oak.
The Cellar Door offers a unique experience. The 1920's rustic shearing shed of bush pole construction with split paling cladding and iron roof, has been approved for tastings and sales. Julie Llewellyn, part-owner and descendant of early settler families, Reid's, Clifford's, Cleland's, has created an historic ambience with her family memorabilia.
Priory Ridge Cellar Door is open daily from 1100 to 1600.

Bay of Fires

Bay of Fires is a truly special region north of St. Helens on Tasmania's north-east coast with clean white beaches, blue water and granite rocks splashed with orange lichen.
It's not surprising that Lonely Planet named the Bay of Fires as one of the world's hottest travel destinations.
Beach activities and bird-watching are popular in this beautiful reserve. You may even see a pod of dolphins as they cruise along parallel to the beach.
The area is also known for its snorkelling and diving, with scenic reefs, corals, underwater caves and abundant sea life.
The Bay of Fires Conservation Area offers beach-side camping and the elevated sites amongst the trees have amazing views of the coast and sea. There are camping grounds along a 13-kilometre section of road at the southern end of the conservation area, approached via St Helens.
The bay was named by Captain Tobias Furneaux in 1773 in response to the many Aboriginal fires he saw burning on its shore.
