Lillico Beach

Lillico Beach is a coastal reserve and penguin colony near Devonport in north-west Tasmania.
Just ten minutes west of Devonport, this narrow coastal strip is home to a colony of Little Penguins, also known as Fairy Penguins. At around 30 centimetres high and weighing in at just one kilo, the Little Penguin is the world's smallest penguin.
From the reserve's viewing platform you can watch the birds return to their burrows each evening after a day of fishing in the open ocean.
Local volunteers and Parks and Wildlife rangers are on-site during the breeding season (September to May) and summer months (mid-December to mid-February).

Don River Railway

Passenger trains disappeared from Tasmania some time ago, except this one, a full size loco service from the Don Village Station to Coles Beach every day.
After leaving Don Village, the route of the Don River Railway winds its way along the Eastern banks of the picturesque Don River, passing Restoration Siding where old vehicles are awaiting their turn for restoration at the hands of the craftsmen. During the thirty minute return journey you will pass through a nature reserve and you will also see many places of historical interest.
A steam locomotive pulls the train on Sundays and public holidays and all January (other than high fire danger days). For the remainder of the year weekday trains are run with a vintage rail car. The collection of steam and diesel locomotives and rolling stock is open for inspection at the Don Village Station, where there is also a souvenir and model shop.

Two hour guided walks are available for a reasonable cost, and can be booked online. Bookings are essential.
The Arboretum offers three picnic shelters, two with coin operated electric barbecues. There are also two general shelters and a platypus observatory and bird hide on the shore of Founders' Lake.
The Tree Park Kiosk offers light refreshments and audio tours. It is operated by volunteers and opens between October and May from 1100 to 1600.
