Smithton Country Club


The Smithton Country Club is a nine-hole golf course on Tasmania's far North West Coast. Smithton is a one-hour drive west of Burnie (86 km) and a 90-minute drive west of Devonport (135 km).
A challenging nine holes awaits you at the Smithton Country Club, with numerous bunkers, trees and water hazards. This is a well maintained course with lush, gently undulating fairways rimmed with native trees and shrubs. Visitors are welcome and the club hosts regular competitions including the weekend Men's Competition (Saturday and Sunday at 1130), the Ladies Competition each Wednesday and Saturday at 0900 and the Chicken Run every Thursday during the summer months (October to March). Smithton Country Club also hosts The Bowl Major Open tournament during the Labour Day long weekend each March.
Enjoy a drink and snack in the licensed club house after your round - open each Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Barbecue facilities are also available.

Stanley Golf Club


The Stanley Golf Club is a nine-hole coastal course at Stanley, North West Tasmania. Stanley is a classified historic town, a 20-minute drive north-east of Smithton (22 km) and a 90-minute drive west of Devonport (127 km).
A typical links-style course, the Stanley Golf Club has a relatively flat layout with watered greens and tees. The course is set among sand dunes about 10 m from the sea and has some interesting challenges including bunkers, a dam and strong Bass Strait winds. The course offers great views of the coast and Stanley's famous Nut - the remains of an extinct volcano rising 152 m from the sea.
Visitors are welcome and casual green fees are paid into an honesty box. A Men's competition is held each Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at 1pm and the Ladies' competition is each Wednesday and Saturday at 10am. You can enjoy a drink in the bar each weekday from 3pm, Saturday from 11am and from 3pm Sunday. Club and buggy hire, practice facilities and showers are also available. The Stanley Golf Club hosts The Nut Major Open Event each year in mid-November.

Joe Lyons Cottage


Joseph Aloysius Lyons was born in this tiny workers cottage in 1879. Joe was the fifth of eight children who experienced early childhood in this humble cottage at Stanley.
Joe attended the local Stanley school and started his teaching career here before his political career in 1909.
By 1914 Joe was deputy leader, then in 1923 elected as State Premier. Joe remained premier till the party lost office in 1928, before moving into federal politics in the Scullin Labor ministry in 1929.
In 1931 Joe resigned from the Labor Party and led the newly formed United Australia Party in its successful federal campaign in December. From 1932 to his death in 1939, "Honest Joe" was Prime Minister of Australia, being the first (and only) Tasmanian to aspire to that office. Joe was also the first Prime Minister to win three consecutive federal elections.
The cottage is preserved as much as possible in the period of Joe's childhood. The static display is a tribute to the life of Joe and his equally famous wife Dame Enid Lyons, the first woman elected to the federal House of Representatives.
The cottage is currently owned by Parks and Wildlife and operated by volunteers.

Cow 'N' Calf Art Gallery


The Cow 'N' Calf Art Gallery is located in, Stanley, a beautiful quaint heritage-style township located in Tasmania's north west. The gallery has been operating since October 2010.
The gallery exhibits consist of the photographic works created by David Murphy, and a range of other artists artworks as well. They comprise glasswares, woodworks, jewellery, apparel such as scarves, bronze works, as well as other photographic works.
David is also available for weddings, website images, and functions.

Stanley Seaquarium

Stanley Discovery Museum and Geneology Centre


The Discovery Centre contains a wealth of information relating to the history of the Stanley district and many items of interest collected in the area.
Some of the items on display include antique bric-a-brac, photographic display, numerous household and farming utensils of settlement days, 1850 wedding gown, marine curios, relics from ships that once sailed in the area, bowsprit of ship Kermandie, mineral display, and locally made souvenirs and handcrafts are for sale.
Genealogy search is $10, which includes your entry fee.
It is possible to access the centre by appointment outside of opening hours, by arrangement.

Touchwood Craft Gallery, Gifts and Cafe


The Touchwood Craft Gallery is located at Stanley, North West Tasmania. Stanley is a one-hour drive north-west of Burnie (78 km) and a 90-minute drive from Devonport (127 km).
The Touchwood Craft Gallery specialises in fine Tasmanian artworks. Circular Head Agricultural Show


The Circular Head Show provides the community with the district's major agricultural event. The show provides entertainment, fundraising for local service groups, exhibitors and competitors with the opportunity to showcase their wares at a traditional country show.
The Circular Head Agricultural Society would like to thank the judges, sponsors, exhibitors and volunteers who help to create this event each year.
The Circular Head Show is a smoke free event. This is a entertaining day for all the family.
