Wing's Wildlife Park

Wing's Wildlife Park displays the largest collection of Tasmanian wildlife in Australia. We're less than a one-hour drive from the Spirit of Tasmania ferry terminal in Devonport. Situated in Gunns Plains, 23 km south of Ulverstone, in the beautiful north-west of Tasmania, on the banks of the Leven River.
Your visit to Tasmania is not complete unless you get to see some real live Tassie devils up close. Our devil feed is at 1300 daily, with koala interactions at 1100 and 1430. You can feed the trout and the friendly kangaroos.
Other animals you can see at the park include wombats, wallabies, quolls, sugar-gliders, wedge-tail eagles, reptiles, meerkats, marmosets, monkeys, bison, camels and much more.
Most native animals at Wing's Wildlife Park have been rescued following injury and are released into their natural habitat when rehabilitated. Those unable to be released stay in our care for the remainder of their lives.
Group bookings, guided tours, catering, camping and cabin accommodation available. Nocturnal tours in winter (booking essential).
Wing's Wildlife Park has a cafe open for lunch, snacks, drinks and ice-creams. You can browse in our gift shop and find that treasured souvenir.
Gunns Plains Caves and Preston Falls are nearby.

Gunns Plains Cave

Mr Bill Woodhouse of Gunns Plains discovered Gunns Plains Cave in 1906 during a hunting trip. The cave consists of a series of caverns and short passages through which visitors are escorted along well lit concrete pathways.
The cave entrance is situated 30 metres from the car park. Upon entry a steep flight of 54 concrete steps are descended and from this point the pathway is fairly level apart from a short ladder to be climbed down. The tour route through the cave is some 275 metres long. Occasional dampness underfoot is not troublesome provided visitors wear low-heeled walking shoes. It is not recommended for those with health or mobility concerns.
The cave was formed by an underground river that still flows and contains Giant Freshwater Lobster, fish and eel. Platypus sleep and nest in the sandy banks along the river. Lofty chambers contain many varied formations including magnificent calcite shawls.
"The cave is renowned for its magnificent shawl and flowstone formations and the recent improvements will assist visitors to enjoy the cave experience."
Gunns Plain Cave is open daily (closed Christmas Day) from 1000 to 1630. For further information on tour times, please phone (03) 6429 1388.

Lake Barrington - Devils Gate Dam

Lake Barrington is a man-made Hydro Tasmania lake in north-west Tasmania's Forth Valley. Lake Barrington is best known for its 2000 metre, eight-lane international-standard rowing course, used for rowing, canoeing and water skiing competitions.
The Lake Barrington State Recreation Area hugs the lake's foreshore where tall eucalypt and lush rainforest shelters a diversity of native wildlife.
The Recreation Area has a large day visitor shelter with wood barbecues, picnic tables and stretches of lawn along the shore. Toilet facilities on the eastern side of the lake have wheelchair access and a kiosk operates on weekends throughout summer and during major sporting events. There are also boat-launching ramps on both sides of the lake.
Camping in the State Recreation Area is not permitted, but campsites can be found at the northern end at Kentish Park. Bring along your own equipment and spend long summer days here rowing, water skiing, power boating, canoeing and model yachting.
Lake Barrington is 20 kilometres long and was formed in 1969 with the construction of the 84 metre high Devils Gate Dam on the Forth River.
The lake is a 45-minute drive (40 kilometres) south of Devonport.

A Dawn Service will be held at Ulverstone Cenotaph.
ANZAC was the name given to the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps soldiers who landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey early on the morning of 25 April 1915 during the First World War (1914-1918).
As a result, one day in the year has involved the whole of Australia in solemn ceremonies of remembrance, gratitude and national pride for all our men and women who have fought and died in all wars. That day is ANZAC Day - 25 April.
A Dawn Service will be held at the Cenotaph to remember the ANZACs and other War Veterans who fought for Australia.
