Paddys Ranges State Park


Well-known for its wildflowers in springtime, Paddys Ranges State Park is home to 30 types of orchids and more than 140 native bird species like the rare Painted Honeyeaters and Swift Parrots.

Relics of the goldmining era scattered throughout the park. Visitors can retrace the steps of 'Paddy', a miner who reputedly roamed the area in the 1800s.

Bushwalking, camping and picnicking are popular activities in this beautiful Box-Ironbark forest.

Central Goldfields Art Gallery


Central Goldfields Art Gallery in Maryborough is situated in the picturesque historic fire station built in 1861, a short walk from the town centre.

The Gallery's changing exhibition program showcases local and regional artists, and includes diverse touring exhibitions. Community engagement is supported with the annual community art and craft exhibitions and local schools art.

Central Goldfields Art Gallery is a cultural facility of Central Goldfields Shire Council, and in line with Council's Arts and Cultural Policy, the Gallery Collection is exhibited and features artwork by local and regional artists.

Education programs for school children and Friends of the Gallery programs are run throughout the year.

Talbot Farmers Market


On the third Sunday every month the Talbot Farmers' Market comes alive as thousands of visitors enjoy the vibrant village atmosphere.

Explore an evolving display of over 80 regional produce stalls, including seasonal fruit and organic vegetables, local artisan cheese, fresh bread, local wine, gourmet oils, delicious delicacies and more. In true country farmers' market style you will also find pigs, goats and chooks, stockfeed, cut flowers, plants and seedlings.

Sample fabulous food and wine, enjoy a coffee and a tasty bite to eat while listening to local artists playing live music in the street.

Pick up a ticket for your chance to win the 'Barrow Raffle' overflowing with wonderful produce kindly donated by our stall holders.

Remember to bring your shopping bags or grab a gorgeous calico bag from the information marquee.

The Beauty of Winter at Mount Mitchell


Rug up and explore the beautiful gardens of the Mount Mitchell Estate in winter time.

The garden is a picture of bare branched deciduous trees. Lush green hedges, significant trees and expansive lawns create many beautiful garden rooms.

The magnificent Mount Mitchell homestead and numerous outbuildings of interest create an English country scene.

The National Trust listed stables will be converted to provide guests with numerous delicious winter food and beverage options. In the coach house, Devonshire teas will be served. Delicious hot chocolate with marshmallows will satisfy the children while warm mulled wine will warm up the grown ups.

Also within the stable complex, scrumptious bread rolls will be served with Mount Mitchell pumpkin soup and Pyrenees wines will be complimented with tasty cheese platters. Fire places will be lit, whilst a fire pit will memorise and warm up our visitors outside.

Guests will be interested to hear of the historic background of the property and be treated to some early artefacts of note.

The Mount Mitchell garden is a picture in winter, beautiful frosts sparkle the lawn, morning sunshine dabbles the light and the surrounding green paddocks create a winter haven.

RACV Energy Breakthrough - Maryborough


The RACV Energy Breakthrough provides an opportunity for students, teachers, parents and local industry to work together to design and construct a vehicle, a machine or innovation in technology that will represent an energy breakthrough.

School groups work throughout the year to design, build and test vehicles or machines within detailed specifications. It requires a team effort and an across-the-curriculum approach. These groups then bring their vehicles and machines to Maryborough, Victoria in November, for a huge celebration in which they can demonstrate and trial them in action.

More than 5,000 student entrants converge on Maryborough, a further 3,000 will work as support crew and another 13,000 will be visitors to the event.

The Energy Expo is amongst the action of the RACV Energy Breakthrough and offers visitors and entrants the chance to relax and enjoy the festive atmosphere. The Energy Expo provides entertainment, fascinating energy efficient displays and opportunities for career advancement.

Central Goldfields Visitor Information Centre offers a full range of guides and brochures for Central Goldfields and Victoria.

The friendly staff can assist you with finding a full range of souvenirs and locally made craft items all at very reasonable prices, Maryborough Postcards and Gold Nugget Pins.

They also have maps and brochures of Maryborough and surrounding towns. Brochures covering all regions of Victoria and some interstate guides. Accommodation and dining guides, guided tours of Maryborough (on request) plus self guided tour brochures. They also have books and publications on the history of Maryborough and towns within the shire.

Central Goldfields Visitor Information Centre have a fax and photocopying service. As well as clean toilet facilities with baby changing and disabled facilities.

See the life size model of The Welcome Stranger gold nugget (69kgs) and photographs of old Maryborough and their historic buildings, local Parks and Wildlife Information and maps.

The Central Goldfields Visitor Information is located in the Maryborough Resource Centre Building Corner of Nolan and Alma Streets in Maryborough. Also in the building is the Maryborough Library, Community Information Centre and Exhibition Hall.
