Location: Bairnsdale to Orbost
Distance: 96 kilometres one way
Track: Generally smooth dirt or gravel track
Grade: Level One - Suitable for beginners and children. Level Two - Suitable for most ages and fitness levels
Start: Howitt Park, McEacharn Street, Bairnsdale
Finish: Burn Road, Newmerella. The trail ends at Newmerella, with an off road shared pathway continuing to Orbost.

Experience the diversity of East Gippsland as this trail weaves past undulating farmland, tall forests, rivers and flood plains. Cross historic timber railway bridges and enjoy views of the Gippsland Lakes before arriving at the Snowy River.

2017 XCO National Series, Rounds Five and Six


Mountain Bike Australia in conjunction with East Gippsland Shire Council are pleased to present Rounds 5 and 6 of the 2017 Cross-Country Olympic (XCO) National Series.

The XCO National Series is a well established event on the mountain biking calendar, attracting riders from all corners of the country, including those competing on the internationals scene.

The National Series isn't only for the elite, with high emphasis on participation and rider development.

In 2017 the XCO National Series has categories available from Under 13 through to Masters, ensuring a category suitable for everyone.

Bruthen Community Market


The Bruthen Community Market takes place on the third Saturday of each month at the Bruthen Mechanics Hall grounds and Police paddock.

The market is a community project of Bruthen Lions Club Inc and includes special fun kids activities, competitions, displays and so much more.

The theme of the market: Make It - Bake It - Grow It - Up-cycle It.

The market day kicks off around 9 am through to approximately 1 pm in the grounds and supper room of the Bruthen Mechanics Hall.

Explore over 40 high quality artisan and fresh produce stalls along with other special attractions for the day. Enjoy time out with family and friends over a cappuccino (Kombi Koffee mobile van), Devonshire tea (Bet's Kitchen), donuts (Lions marquee), a burger and salad buns (beef@thegate) and so it goes on. There's something for everyone, all ages catered for.

Upon arrival collect your competition entry ticket to place in the 'competition box' at the Community Fundraising Barbecue in the backyard of the Mechanics Hall grounds. Lucky entry drawn at 12 noon and supervised by the Market Day Manager.

The February market is incorporated in the Bruthen Blues Festival (organiser BAEC).

Bruthen Blues and Arts Festival


The Bruthen Blues and Arts Festival is an annual event that brings to life the East Gippsland town of Bruthen, showcasing a weekend line-up of talented musicians, a colourful market, village buskers and a variety of food stalls, all with a family-friendly atmosphere and plenty of activities for the kids.

The Bruthen Blues and Arts festival is held in the main street of town and apart from the main events and some workshops, it is free to enter.

The weekend has something for everyone, kicking off with the Friday night Jam Competition. Bring the family and wander the main street markets, the local brewery, bakery, cafes, music shop and second-hand stores. With free music on the street stage, followed by the laid back, family friendly Blues Cafe at the Hall and the Big Blues Bash event at the Bruthen Inn Hotel on the Saturday night, the festival provides entertainment right across the weekend.

The free street stage music and market continues on Sunday, along with the popular parade and the Duck Race on the Tambo River. The Festival winds up Sunday afternoon with the Blues Recovery Session at the Bruthen Inn Hotel.

Jan Long Solo Art Exhibition


Jan Long is a renown artist working in various mediums from graphite to pastels to watercolours and is possibly best classified as having proficiency that is interdisciplinary.

She has exhibited her works in many regions around Australia but is also recognised internationally.

As a local artist in East Gippsland she has created over 80 new works for this major solo exhibition.

Jan will be demonstrating her techniques throughout the weekend and is available to discuss her art works.

Jan has received more than 770 awards for her paintings and drawings including Wildlife Artists of Australasia Best Native Australian Wildlife, Best Watercolour and Best Drawing.
She is presented in the publication "Fifty Australian Artists'' and has just been selected for the American book 'Splash 2016', an annual of watercolour artists worldwide.

This event provides an opportunity to not only view her latest works but to learn, to observe, and also enjoy amazing artistic talent. It is also an opportunity to visit East Gippsland with its 'Naturally Magic' surroundings which inspire these works.

Official opening event 21st of April. Finger food and complimentary wine, previewing and sales is by invitation only.

Week of Bowls Carnival


The annual five-day carnival attracts bowlers and visitors from throughout Victoria and interstate. The 2017 event runs from 13th to 17th February, with games every day and a dinner dance on Thursday 16th February.

Entries close on 31th of January 2017 or when the competition is full, so get in early to avoid disappointment.

While in Paynesville, visitors can check out the wonderful natural assets of the East Gippsland region, including the extensive Gippsland Lakes, wineries, ocean beaches and beautiful produce at the source..

Bairnsdale Visitor Information Centre, in East Gippsland, is ideally situated at the start of the Great Alpine Road and a focal point on the Sydney to Melbourne Coastal Route serving both the Gippsland Lakes to the east and the High Country to the north.
