Australian Beach Games Lakes Entrance

Australian Beach Games is a new and exciting multisport games festival, based on a variety of sports that are played on and around the beach. It will be one of the premier and largest participation sporting events on the Australian sporting landscape.

The beach is an integral part of Australian culture. Australians have grown up going to the beach for holidays and playing in the sand and surf. This concept captures everything that Australians love about the beach.

It is expected over 3,000 participants will compete across over 10-20 different sports.

The primary focus of the Australian Beach Games is:

Promoting healthy living and participation in team and individual sports;
Encouraging the general population to become more physically active and healthy through the participation of sport and fitness activities;
Promoting sports, tourism, recreation and cultural facilities in the regions that the events are being held;
and providing a fun environment for people to participate in one or more of the many sports that will be available throughout the games.

The event is open to everyone from ages six to 110 years old and offers participants a wide range of different sports, from triathlon to dodgeball to swimming and more.

Tostaree: Travel Tips

Lakes Entrance Visitor Information Centre

Lakes Entrance VIC is the place to come for information on the region. The best known destination, the Gippsland Lakes, is the biggest and most beautiful expanse of inland waterways in the southern hemisphere. Walk across the sand dunes to the famous Ninety Mile Beach.

With eight magnificent National Parks on the coast and in the high country of Gippsland, more than any other region of Australia. These include the Alpine National Park - Victoria's biggest, the Snowy River National Park and the UNESCO- listed Croajingalong National Park that embraces 100 kilometres of coastline.

The region has two of Australia's greatest driving routes. The Great Alpine Road, which winds through the Alpine National Park and Victoria's high country. The Sydney to Melbourne Coastal Drive, which in East Gippsland, starts at Croajingalong National Park and ends at the Gippsland Lakes.

With the country's biggest fishing port at Lakes Entrance, we're the fishing capital of Australia.

Book a lakeside apartment or canal villa with a boat moored at your private jetty, never leave the waterways for your entire holiday. Or stay in a country inn up in the clear mountain air of Victoria's Alpine country and simply wander through the wildflowers.

Orbost Visitor Information Centre

The Orbost Visitor Information Centre is situated in Forest Park on Nicholson Street. The centre is housed in the historic Slab Hut. The hut was an original family dwelling built in 1872, on a site approximately three kilometres upstream from the junction of the Buchan and Snowy Rivers.

Come and browse through the large array of tourist information, maps, books on the area, locally made goods and trinkets, while you enjoy the open fire in winter and the natural coolness in summer.

Be greeted by the resident geese as you stroll through the lovely cottage garden, where bellbirds are in abundance. Relax with a picnic or barbecue in Forest Park, while the children enjoy the playground. An added interest are the Tourist maps, mosaic path, walking tracks and flood marker, all are fine examples of the local talent.

The Visitor Information Centre is partly funded by the East Gippsland Shire and supports one part time Manager and a wonderful team of dedicated volunteers.
