Coolart Wetlands and Homestead

Coolart's historic mansion is set in a delightful garden with wetlands, woodlands and pasture nearby. Paths take you to the beach, lagoon and wetlands.

Things to do
- Take a woodland walk and look for koalas
- Go birdwatching. Birds can be seen everywhere at Coolart with different species found in each of the distinct habitats. Winter and spring are the most spectacular seasons when over 1000 Australian white ibis and other waterbirds congregate on the lagoon to breed
- Picnic on the lawns or use the wood or electric barbeques. If the weather is cold or wet please enquire about the Stables picnic area
- Explore the old out buildings and imagine what life was like when you had to make your own butter
- Stroll through the beautiful gardens and discover unusual exotic plants or to the beach for views of Phillip Island and Westernport
- A slide show, 'Introducing Coolart', is shown each day in the Wetlands Observatory (1:30 PM weekdays and 2:00 PM weekends)
- Junior Ranger Certificate activities are available - these are parent-guided activities for children - just ask at the Visitor Centre for 'Let's Go Around The Farm' and 'Let's Go Beachcombing'.

Ashcombe Maze and Lavender Gardens

Ashcombe Maze and Lavender Gardens is home to Australia's oldest and most famous hedge maze, a beautiful circular rose maze, and the year round flowering Lavender Labyrinth, all set among 25 acres of world acclaimed gardens.

The traditional hedge Maze is planted with more than 1000 cypress trees and thousands of metres of pathways. Now more than three metres high and two metres thick, the Maze keeper clips the hedges three times a year to keep it sculpted into a curvaceous challenge that will delight and inspire.

The Lavender Labyrinth is planted with year round flowering lavender and the view from the centre over the lavender rows is spectacular. More than 3000 lavender plants are planted overlooking the impressive Arboretum, and the Lavender display gardens features more than 40 different lavenders, providing an insight into the history of lavender.

Visitors are welcome to wander through the gardens on the self guided Garden Discovery Trail. The famous Great Ashcombe Gnome Hunt is fun for all ages.

Red Hill Cherry Farm

Pick your own sweet and morello cherries at Red Hill Cherry Farm.

With 46 years of pick your own cherries, Red Hill Cherry Farm is the oldest in the state and are considered an essential visit when on the Mornington Peninsula. You can visit the cherry farm from mid to late November to early to mid January each year.

Situated in a secluded valley in the centre of Red Hill, the cherry farm is the oldest in the state and has been continually been operated by the Holmes family since 1969. There are twenty five varieties of cherries on 4,500 trees.

The farm also offers a boutique range of cherry products for you to enjoy cherries all year round including cherry ice cream, cherry cordial, cherry beer, cherry cider and cherry port.

Balnarring Picnic Race Club Meeting

The Balnarring Picnic Racing Club conducts six family orientated picnic racing meetings at the picturesque Emu Plains Race Course each season between November and Easter in the following year.

Focus is on providing an entertaining experience for family and corporate groups to celebrate special occasions with a relaxing day out at the races.

Entertainment and a playground provided for children. Bar facility and a range of food vendors available with bookmakers and TAB for those interested in the punt.

The Course is located approximately an hour south of Melbourne in the heart of the popular Mornington Peninsula tourism area so a day at the picnic races can easily be incorporated in to a visit to the area.

Australian Exclusive - Swig and Nibble

Internationally acclaimed Cuca Restaurant of Bali, will present an Australian exclusive event at Polperro Bistro this October. Reaching Australian shores for the first time, Michelin trained chef Kevin Cherkas has teamed up with winemaker Sam Coverdale to present the Australian debut of Cuca's unique dining experience Swig and Nibble at the popular vineyard facing venue on the Mornington Peninsula.

Swig and Nibble is one of the most unique and memorable dining events, hosted only in the most iconic venues. The event has travelled throughout Asia in Shangri-la Makati in Manila, Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Ubud and Pullman Rooftop Bar in Jakarta. This will be the first time that the event has ever been held outside South East Asia.

Swig and Nibble will take diners on a flavour- centric journey, presenting nine uniquely crafted signature bites, inventively presented and paired with Sam's Polperro and Even Keel wines. Leading the culinary feast will be award-winning Chef and CUCA co-creator, Canadian-born Kevin Cherkas, whose super-impressive culinary resume reveals stints at three Michelin-starred restaurants in New York and Spain, including legendary El Bulli.

Mornington Peninsula Winery Walk

Mornington Peninsula Winery Walk takes participants alongside local vignerons and friends to celebrate the end of harvest and experience current vintage wines.

Seasonal food from the Piazza Cafe kitchen will be available for purchase all day, for a grazing lunch on the lawn and in the Piazza.
