Sir Reginald Ansett Transport Museum


The Sir Reginald Ansett Transports Musems is dedicated to the transport and tourism pioneer Reg Ansett, who commenced his transport business in Hamilton, Victoria in 1931.

The museum is based on the Ansett company's original aircraft hanger, which has been relocated to Hamilton and displays a collection of over 1,000 objects from throughout the history of Ansett Airlines.

The Hamilton Bandicoot Wildlife Walk


The Hamilton Institute of Rural Learning is the gateway to Hamilton Parklands Bandicoot Enclosure. The Hamilton Parklands Bandicoot Enclosure was set up the ensure the survival of the endangered species, The Eastern Barred Bandicoot.

These Bandicoots are being bred in their natural habitat at Hamilton and then being sent to other areas in Victoria where they can be safety bred to increase the size of the population to ensure their survival.

The Parklands at Hamilton, is not only a secure breeding ground for the a Eastern Barred Bandicoot, but contains a beautiful wildlife walk around the old Hamilton reservoir. This walk has signs that have beautiful paintings of all the fauna and flora in the parkland.

The walk around the reservoir in this beautiful natural bush land takes only a little over half an hour. You will see native birds and wildlife, as well as all the native plants representative of our western district bush lands and grassy plains.

HIRL Hamilton Institute of Rural Learning


Hamilton Institute of Rural Learning (HIRL) is a mud brick function centre, consisting of main function hall, meeting rooms with attached kitchens, as well as having art studios with an art room and separate ceramics studio.

HIRL is the gateway to the eastern barred bandicoot and native grasslands/bush enclosure.

Stroll through the beautiful grounds, past the children's native play garden, look at the red gum bandicoot carvings and stroll past the indigenous food garden on your way through they beautiful native bush land to the the bandicoot enclosure. Stroll around the reservoir, taking in the 12 informative signs displaying magnificent paintings of local native fauna and flora.

Bring a picnic and stop over at the bandicoot site, situated in the magnificent gardens.

A beautiful place for a wedding, the main hall with inlaid bandicoots and rustic features is ideal, and the paved courtyard and gardens lends themselves for a perfect wedding venue.

HIRL is the home of Hamilton's monthly farmers' and craft market on the last Saturday of each month. Please visit the website for more information.

Hamilton Harness Race Day


Harness racing has been part of the Australian sporting calendar for 150 years now, and it becomes a bigger industry year on year.

In Australia, there are 91 harness racing tracks holding nearly two thousand meetings per year. Around 5,000 standard bred horses are foaled and registered each year, and the sport features nearly 3,000 drivers across the country, with 4,000 registered trainers.

Join for a day of Harness Racing, fun for the whole family with meals, bar and TAB facilities.

Laternenfest


Traditionally, Laternenfest, or Festival of Lanterns, takes place on the last Friday of November. German communities celebrate Laternenfest in honour of St. Martin who was known for his generosity of spirit.

He brought light into poor people's lives, and this is symbolized by the lights of the closing lantern parade. Held in the grounds of Tarrington's St Michaels Lutheran Church, the event features tours of the towns famous church building, stein holding competition, food, wine, lantern-making, craft stalls, children's maypole dance and more.

A haybale art competition is one of the growing and best-loved features of Laternenfest, with 'artwork' on display on the streets of Tarrington from mid October till the end of the year. This year a Primary schools Hay Bale Art competition will be added, for schools in Penshurst and Hamilton.

Come along and enjoy the family atmosphere of the 'On Track Market' with a range of outside stalls set in the idyllic location of the Hamilton Pastoral Museum with plenty of parking available.

Hamilton parkrun


Hamilton parkrun is a free, weekly five kilometre timed run, walk or jog around Lake Hamilton for people of all abilities.

It is not a race against other runners, but a five kilometre timed run, jog or walk. It can really be whatever you want it to be, for fun or as part of a training plan.

Hamilton parkrun offers an opportunity for all members of our local community, male or female, young or old, to come together on a regular basis to enjoy our beautiful Lake Hamilton and get physically active in the process.

People are encouraged to walk, jog or run together irrespective of their ability - this event is truly open to all and best of all it really is free.

Taking part is easy - just register in advance by 6:00pm on the Friday before your first ever parkrun event. The great thing is that you only ever need to do this once. Then just set your alarm for Saturday morning and get yourself there.

Hamilton HIRL Farmers and Craft Market


The Hamilton Farmers' and Craft Market showcases local produce and local designers on 11 acres of beautiful grounds.

Music at Pierrepoint Cellar Door
