Mooramong

What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than exploring the warm and cosy homestead of the late Scobie and Claire Mackinnon. View the opulent decor and furnishing of the home including many art deco objects are curios collected from all over the world.

Built in the early 1860s and remodelled in 1938, this homestead elegantly echoes the lifestyle of D.J.S (Scobie) Mackinnon and his Hollywood screen star wife Claire Adams. This homestead, based on a working farm near Skipton, feels like a lived in home with the photographs, furniture, curios and objects d'art as they were left by the MacKinnons invoking memories of the 1930s, 40s, 50s and 60s.

The 600 acre nature reserve is also home to kangaroos, swamp wallabies and numerous birds including brolgas. Many birds of prey, including wedge tailed eagles, can be seen here.

The Mackinnon Nature Reserve has become one of the leading centres for the re-establishment of the endangered Eastern Barred Bandicoot. There are self-guided walks of the reserve for visitors.

Bring a picnic lunch and roam the extensive gardens, Park and outbuildings or relax and watch the waterbirds on the house dam from the bird hide.

Lake Bolac Eel Festival

The Lake Bolac Eel Festival is a community music and art festival held each autumn on the foreshore of Lake Bolac in south-western Victoria, and inspired by the fact that Lake Bolac was a traditional gathering place for indigenous people before white settlement.

The Festival is a gathering place for people who care for the environment and respect Aboriginal cultural heritage. This is reflected in the indigenous dancing and ceremony, the environmental forum, indigenous, environmental and historical displays, and the Healing Walk held prior to the Festival, all adding up to a unique Festival experience.

This welcoming and family friendly festival has something for everyone, with plenty to see and do including the Art Exhibition, workshops, roving entertainers, a climbing wall for the adventurous, a touch tank of live eels, plenty of children's activities, and a craft and produce market.
