Commonwealth Championship Sheepdog Trials

The Commonwealth Championship Sheepdog Trials run for a week with triallers travelling from most states of Australia to compete in one of the biggest trials held in Australia.

Novice, open and improver heats are held throughout the week with finals on the weekend. A Trans Tasman trial is held under lights for three nights of the trial. Included in the trial is the coveted Australian Dog of the Year title with the best dog in each state attending by invitation to compete.

Held in the historic Port Fairy tourist town on the Shipwreck Coast of Victoria. Morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea available at a very reasonable cost

Commonwealth Championship Sheepdog Trials

The Commonwealth Championship Sheepdog Trials are open to all registered sheep dog workers throughout Australia. Novice, Open and Improver trials will be held over a period of one week. Included will be the running of the The Australian Dog of the Year.

The top dog from each state will be vying for this title, with runs being held during the week. All finals will be held on Sunday. On three nights of the trial a Trans Tasman trial is held, this event is a combination of Australian and New Zealand courses.

Handlers spend numerous hours training their dogs to move three sheep through a variety of obstacles to a pen where the dog must keep them until the handler closes the gate. All dogs start with 100 points with a judge deducting points when mistakes are made.

Port Fairy Community Market

The Port Fairy Community Market is held every second and fourth Saturday of the month at Railway Place, Port Fairy, from 9:00am to 1:00pm.

There are over 40 stalls selling a huge array of local products and produce. Hot food, coffee, plants, cakes, bread, fresh fruit and vegetables, preserves, jewellery, candles, clothing and handmade goods.

During January the market operates every Saturday from 8:30am and has over 100 stalls with a huge array of items.

Port Fairy Visitor Information Centre

Port Fairy is one of Victoria's most historic towns. There are over 50 buildings classified by the National Trust. However the town is not just about the past, there are beautiful beaches for swimming and fishing, lots of festivals and events including the famous Port Fairy Folk Festival held each March, and wonderful walking tracks that criss-cross the town.

Restaurants and cafes line the streets, many in historic buildings and a range of accommodation is available with beautiful, shady caravan parks, houses, cottages and units, delightful bed and breakfasts and motels.

Port Fairy has a wonderful 18 hole links golf course consistently rated as one of Victoria's best. Other sports well catered for include bowls, cricket and Aussie rules football in the winter months.

An indoor heated pool will help you keep fit during the cooler months. Artists find the area inspiring and many have made their home here, visit the studios or purchase from one of the galleries.

Port Fairy is part of the Moyne Shire region which in turn is part of one of the largest volcanic plains in the world. Five minutes drive east of Port Fairy is Tower Hill Reserve, an area of significant geological interest.
