Cheese World and Museum

Cheese World promotes the local dairy industry through offering tastings and sales of the award winning Warrnambool Heritage Cheddar, Cracker Barrel, Mil Lel and Coon cheese varieties produced across the road at the Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory.

The aim of the business is to promote local gourmet products to the visitors who stop here on their way along the Great Ocean Road. Educational information on the local dairy industry both past and present is offered through a modern cheese making video filmed in the factory and a walk back in time through the local history museum.

The Museum houses artifacts, photos and personal items belonging to early local dairy farming families. The factory was first established on this site in 1888 and has continued to grow to become a major contributor to the local economy.

Enjoy lunch or a snack in the licensed cafe. Cheese Platters and Ploughman's Lunches are a specialty.

Free hourly cheese tastings.

On open farmland overlooking the famous whale nursery, the studio is situated four kilometres directly east of the Hopkins River Bridge at Warrnambool. Please close the gate behind you. Open most days or by appointment.

A fine selection of original watercolours, ink, linocuts, acrylics and oils are available, as well as prints, cards and whale charts. Most works are matted but unframed, and easily packed for safe travel.

Robert Ulmann studied sculpture and painting in Zurich before emigrating to Canada where he initiated handicraft programs for Inuit in isolated settlements across the central Arctic, later working in a similar capacity with Pitjanjatjara people west of Uluru. He made extensive field trips here and overseas, exhibited widely and was the subject of the ABC documentary "A Brush with Nature."

In 2001 his work was included in Olsen's book "Feather and Brush: Three centuries of Australian Bird Art" (the book was dedicated to Robert) and more recently in "Inspiration Wild" produced in conjunction with fundraising for the Wildlife Art Museum of Australia. The invitation to the 2014 launch featured Rob's painting of an echidna.
