Conditions can change in parks for many reasons. For the latest information on changes to local conditions, please visit the relevant park page on the Parks Victoria website.

Thousands of naturalised daffodils carpet the lawns in September, and through the summer months, the herbaceous border features Diggers perennials and grasses. The month of May marks the end of the gardening year with a blaze of autumn-coloured trees and late perennials.

Cocooned in the Wombat State Forest, the bush garden plays host to a variety of native birds, as well as being a place of restful contemplation.

Relax over coffee in the cafe and stay on for lunch, morning or afternoon tea surrounded in the beauty of the gardens.

The Diggers Club is committed to sustainable gardening and visitors will find inspirational ideas for gardening organically, becoming more self-sufficient and saving precious water while still enjoying nature's bounty.

Long Forest Nature Conservation Reserve

This park provides the opportunity to view Mallee vegetation in close proximity to Melbourne. Plants typical of arid landscapes and small creek escarpments make the reserve a fantastic retreat for bushwalkers and birdwatchers.

Heritage
Today, mallee vegetation is widespread in Victoria's dry north-west, but some thousands of years ago, during a warmer and drier period, it extended much farther south. Subsequent climatic changes favoured other vegetation such as box and stringybark eucalypts and the Long Forest is now the only naturally occurring mallee south of the Great Dividing Range.

Traditional Wooden Longbow Making in Trentham

You will come away from this workshop with the knowledge and skills to make your own longbow. You will learn how to make a bowstring that perfectly complements your own bow and understand the art of tillering, the process of carefully removing wood to cause the bows to bend in optimal arcs.

Students will learn how to tiller their bows to precise measurements of draw length and draw weight depending on the archer. After the bow is functionally finished, it comes time to bring the bows to an aesthetically pleasing finish with fine sanding and oiling.

During the second day afternoon the bows are ready for students to take to the shooting range to learn how to shoot. You will get your introduction to the instinctive shooting method.

This workshop offers much more than making a longbow. It shows you ways to reconnect, to ground with the Earth, to get in touch with your true self by exploring the art of making a longbow and learning the skills to use it; to play with your conscious awareness to allow essential aspects of your being to be/unfold/shine or hide.
