The Scottish links with this sector of north Melbourne began with pioneer pastoralist Duncan Cameron who gave the name of his home town to his Glen Roy cattle run.

Migrants from Inverness, the Kennedy family, who landed in the mid-1840s also named their first property Glenroy Farm which stood on land now occupied by the suburb of Glenroy.

The area's subsequent development was closely interwoven with the destiny of the family of Arthur Wiseman. Wiseman was a principal subdivider of the original Kennedy holdings and his home, Wiseman House, still stands on Widford Road.

Tragically, one of his daughters and local benefactor, was murdered half a century on when she disturbed an intruder in her home in 1938.

Glenroy is one of the north-western suburbs in the municipality of Moreland. The rich ethnic mix of the Moreland community is reflected in the multicultural flavour and spirit of annual, council-sponsored festivals which include the Sydney Road Street Party and the Brunswick Music Festival.
