Nioka Bush Camp


Nioka Bush Camp is a quiet retreat away from the stresses of city life. Stay overnight in the great outdoors, camping or in bunkhouse accommodation.

Explore the sights and sounds of of the bush on a pleasant bushwalk. The wildlife is varied and you might catch a glimpse of an Eastern Grey Kangaroo or a Sugar Glider.

Hawkstowe Picnic Area


Take a look back in time at the historic Hawkstowe Picnic Area. You'll be impressed by the brick and bluestone Le Page homestead, barn and stables.

Take a walk around the picturesque lakes. Sit on the jetty and discover the abundant wildlife. Maybe the friendly kangaroos will come and visit you.

The picnic area has toilets, electric barbecues and picnic shelters.

Take a look back in time at the historic Hawkstowe farm complex, which sits elegantly on the hill with views of the entire Park.

Extensive restoration works have been undertaken on the homestead building in recent times, returning it to its 1860's period. Surrounding the homestead is a cottage garden with mature exotic trees.

Birrarrung Park


Situated at the confluence of the Plenty and Yarra Rivers, this 33 hectare park was an important meeting place for the Wurundjeri people. Birrarrung Park is a significant recreation space within the parks along the Yarra River, incorporating two large ephemeral wetlands.

Several wood barbecues (wood is provided), picnic tables and shelters are available in the park. Fires are permitted only in the barbecues provided, and you are welcome to bring your own small gas barbecue. The toilet block at Birrarrung Park is wheelchair accessible. An adventure playground is available for children. There are 2.8 kilometres of flat sealed trails are suitable for skating, cycling and walking.

Banksia Park


The open space, playgrounds and picnic areas of Banksia Park make it a popular location with visitors of all ages. The park is perfect for cyclists, joggers, walkers and for a breath of fresh air.

Follow the Heritage Trail and learn about our history and special significance of the Aboriginal sites, view the plentiful water fowl in the wetlands, or walk the Heidelberg Artists Trail.

Organised groups of more than 50 people require a permit from the park office.

Heritage
In 1841, a punt was installed on the Yarra River at the site of the bridge at Banksia Park. It opened the best route between Melbourne and the Bulleen-Templestowe area enabling the earliest Europeans to settle along the rich river flats. Banksia Park was the first part of the Yarra Valley Parklands to be opened to the public in 1978.

Olivia Newton-John Wellness Walk and Research Run


Join Olivia Newton-John and Steve Moneghetti for The Wellness Walk and Research Run on Sunday 11th September around the Bundoora campus of event Partner, La Trobe University. The five kilometre walk, five filometre run and 10 kilometre run are open to all-ages to participate and will unite all to walk or run for a worthy cause.

On the day registrations open from 8.30am, with the run commencing at 10am and the walk will follow.
