Carnegie

Straddling the Princes Highway in Melbourne's south-east, the suburb of Carnegie is part of the Caulfield municipality which is synonymous with horse-racing.

Carnegie is close to the racetrack where the Caulfield Cup is decided on the third Saturday in October. This classic, 2400m race is the first leg of the famous double which is completed with the running of the Melbourne Cup on the first Tuesday in November.

Only 10 horses have taken the two biggest races on the Victorian racing calendar in the same year since the Caulfield Cup was first run in 1879. The immortal 10 are Poseidon (1906), The Trump (1937), Rivette (1939), Rising Fast (1954), Even Stevens (1962), Galillee (1966), Gurner's Lane (1982), Let's Elope (1991), Doreimus (1995) and Might and Power (1997).
